Things to do in the Mid-West/South

Tomorrow we fly to St Louis (did you know that Missouri is considered both the Mid-West *and* the South?). We already have 2 family members ready to show us that city (I want to see the arch and the confluence.)

Do you have any suggestions for things to do and food to try in Memphis?

We'll also be stepping into Kentucky and stepping into Arkansas, cuz they're right there and J wants to find geocaches in all 50 states. (He's up to 21!)

ND, that will be happening: ) I just read some websites on what to do there, and it seemes like Memphis is the very furthest from anything that appeals to me. But being the BBQ capital of *THE WORLD*....wow, I'm in.

St Louis also appears to have its own BBQ style, and toasted raviolis and butter cake, both mentioned to me by my cousin who I told today I'm dropping in on him and he should show us some good food.

I cannot believe we're flying into Tornado alley during Tornado season with Tornado warnings popping up on Google Maps. Scariest night of my life was 1980 in Kansas during a Tornado warning. My husband always says that America has more than its share of natural disasters and he's about to potentially fly into one.

The Budweiser Clydesdales are not far 🤷‍♀️ and they do a good tour!

If you happen to make it to central Kentucky (Lexington), the Kentucky Horse Park has a really great museum. If not that far east, the Mammoth Caves just southwest of Louisville are pretty cool. Safe Travels!

I haven't been to Memphis (yet), but just reading the word sticks this song in my head for days: https://youtu.be/PgRafRp-P-o

It's a good song.

ND, we had dinner with a family yesterday with kids in St Louis and the 14 year old boy siad, "You have a horse? I find horses prissy." I cracked up laughing because of all horses, my own horse, is actually prissy. I mean, he looks like a girl (everyone agreed when I showed a photo, "Why is his nose so small") and I hat a necklace on him and I put him in pink sometimes. The boy was thrilled that he pinned it, but later I told the grandmother, "Take him to see the Clydesdales, make him stand next to them as they walk by and shake the ground like an earthquake! He will not find them prissy!"

I hope she does!

Jen, Agh, I kept thinking of you the entire trip, knowing of your invite. But we had to start in St. Louis for family (both J's and mine!) and we want to see 6 states in 5 days. He said next time we'll be bound for Ohio and such, and we'll cut through and see you.

Aarene, I will listen. Have you heard cardinals sing? They are so beautiful and so singy! I have videos...

ND, we stopped at the St Louis mounted police farm and saw a few horses, we wanted a visit but there were no officers around to let us in.

We are waiting for Memphis to have bbq, cuz we don't want to waste our time.

We are in our stopover hotel in Kentucky and we're just eating the snacks we brought with us, it's Easter Saturday and don't want to fight crowds in the few restaurants here.

There were horses, which I was hoping for, and pretty fences.
I'm totally disppointed that the license plates no longer have a mare and foal on them. NO!

Hi Lytha, Now we have just a foal on the Horse Counsel plates, a thoroughbred head on the KEEP plates and a racing horse stencil on the Keeneland plates here in Kentucky. You'll see more of those when you hit Central Kentucky where most of the horse farms are. Hope to see you all on the next go round :) Enjoy the weekend!
