Mara's ad

Putting Mara on the market is at the behest of my family, who have made it clear to me that they believe I'm making a mistake keeping Mara. And how long has it been since I've wanted to ride her? Since January, when I lost the use of an arena.

She's been online for a couple months, and I've received only 3 inquiries. I believe this is because Germans like big horses - I often see ads for 15HH horses whose teenage owners have outgrown them.

I've been riding her weekly for short rides, and lunging her twice a week in our field, and keeping up on her groundwork, etc, to keep her sharp.

She still makes me laugh a lot - today she took the hose out of my hand and sprayed everything, very cute. She stretches like a cat when I take a hoof forward in my hand. She's respectful, light and willing. She amazes me with her freakiness though. The other day I was sitting in my chair in the field, where I often sit, and she was afraid to approach. The sight of someone in that chair fruck her out for some reason. And then I left the wheelbarrow in an unfamiliar place, and she refused to pass by it.

The thought of someone showing up to see her on one of her bad days, well, I have to just hope they come on one of her good days.

(((Hugs, Lytha.)))) Never an easy deed. I've found that somehow, the right person comes at the right time. Mara will leave a better horse, despite her ticky-boom. Not many people could have helped her grow as you have.

Ticky-boom? Did you make that up? I'm cracking up, thanks for that.: )

Best of luck finding a great home for the lovely Mara :) I hope the perfect horse finds you and you are able to move forward with many fun adventures!

I know you had a hard time with this decision but I really think you are making the right one. It was hard for me to decide to sell Winston but a huge relief once I made that decision -- he found the right person and Mara will too. Like you, I was under pressure from my family to get a different horse. She's a beautiful mare but she's not a good match for the type of riding you enjoy -- out exploring trails.

What Kitty Bo and T said. The ad is lovely. Maybe you should bring her to the U.S. to sell. Some older trail riders like short horses. (No, I'm not serious. Moving a horse between countries can be a draining nightmare.) Good luck.

I'm quite sure that "ticky boom" is a technical term. I'll research it later....

I, too, hope that Mara finds a good spot. I thought Mel liked her?

T, thanks, and to be honest I hover over ads for Welshes, because they're not rare here, and they are like round little Arabians. Or, in your case, a round huge Arabian: )

Annette, I didn't know your family was influencing you to sell Winston. The last email I got from my mom had 3 words, "SELL THAT HORSE." She was here recently and saw the lack of feeling between us, and noted that I seem to like my donkey more than the horse.

NM, I know what is involved in sending a horse overseas, and although it's great fun (if you get to ride along on the plane), it's out of my price range these days.

Aarene, Mell and KT both were great fans of Mara, but aren't in a position to buy a horse. Sadly, KT just dropped me completely the day I told her Mara was for sale. I think it was because our training switched from the arena to the trails, and KT was never comfortable out there on trails, even with me walking alongside. It still made me sad that she dumped us even though I said I'd like to continue with lessons. As for Mell, I'd had enough of her.

Everyone, in case you were concerned, my sister in law has corrected the sloppy German on the ad, so it's all good now: ) And she wants me to re-measure Mara cuz she can't imagine Mara is actually that small.

I'll echo what everyone else said: Mara will find a good home where she is ridden in the arena, and a wonderful horse will find his/her way to you. The right one. The one that will take you confidently back out on the trails, and back into endurance if you wish to. And I agree with Kitty Bo and Aarene: "ticky-boom" is an official term. ;)

No one could have tried more for Mara than you have, Lytha. *Big hug*

Hope Mara can find the right person and you can find the right horse - it'll happen, I'm sure.

Saiph, I appreciate that. I think Mara could be a good trail horse given the right circumstances. And most people in Germany who are not me, have those circumstances - large barns full of people who ride together. Or maybe not, maybe she'll insist that arenas are her happy place.

Kate, it's a very strange place for me to be in - a horse seller. There is nothing positive about that concept, and I honestly don't know how to go about it. I will try to keep in touch with whoever buys her, as opposed to the people who sold her to me and ran away and never looked back.

Good luck with the sale! I'm sure the right person for Mara is out there somewhere. As is the right horse for you. Sometimes it just doesn't work with a rider-horse-combination.

Hoping the right buyer will come along soon, and Mara finds a home where she will be comfortable and loved. Keep your chin up and try to enjoy her as best you can. And have a wonderful trip home!

I'm so sorry. I know you never wanted to do this, but I'm with everyone else. I think it's for the best. You will never be happy with a horse that hates trails so much and she will never be happy on the trails alone. I'm confident she'll find a great arena home and you'll find a great trail horse. You did more for Mara than most people do and I'm proud of you for that. Hugs!!

I hope Mara finds the right home and you find the right partner. My red mare now belongs to my trainer, who is letting the more advanced riders try her out in lessons (and maybe someone will be happy to lease her and take her to some shows or clinics.)

I'm happily jumping sensible school horses for awhile and rebuilding my confidence.

I watched my trainer jump this mare last week and I swear the expression on her face was shock–SHOCK that someone would even suggest jumping each jump. Which is pretty ridiculous for the number of years she's spent training to be a hunter.

That alone was enough to tell me I made the right decision.

Miss T, I hope so.

Kbryan, thanks for everything. I still have your little note in my barn.

Achieve, that's a lot of "nevers": )

Kathryn, I wish one of my trainers would have helped me with rehoming. We'll see how long this takes..

I'm catching up and I'm sorry to read this, but not surprised. You've worked so hard, but neither of you is happy. I know the right home for her is out there, as well as your fun partner. I'm glad I the meantime that she makes you laugh!

Glad you have the ad up, Mara looks great in all the pictures! KT and Mell liked her a lot, someone else will hopefully come along soon.
