Heimweh

Homesick.

We got another snowfall and I've forgotten how many we've had now. I dug my husband's car out at 6:30 AM, and shoveled my way to the barn to feed my snowy equines. It's lovely when it's coming down, but also worrisome and I hate feeling trapped. My man barely made it up our street today, his car sliding about.

I hate Summer more though, even when a branch shakes loose its snow directly into my shirt.

To my friends in Oregon, I wanted to share a photo I took on one of our family trips to Rockaway.

Although I took some more horror-photos of the snow today, I couldn't bring myself to post them. Instead....Oregon.

The water's 50F, not a friendly temperature, but I hope to always go in.

There's nothing to say to this except that, when you do come home, we'll be here waiting for you.

And of course the weather here isn't always (or even usually) considered "ideal." But you and I both have skills to deal with it, and that's almost the same thing.

I'm sorry you are homesick. I always wonder about that with you living in Germany. Does your family ever get to come over and visit you?

Aarene, thank you for that: ) I still prefer the cold to the Summertime here. I can't do anything in either, but I can get out of the cold if I like. Only people like us can understand - the rain doesn't really prevent you from doing things like Summer and Winter in Germany do.

Tina, I'm homesick an awful lot, but perhaps that's normal. My family came for my wedding in 2008 and they haven't been back since. But I just found out my mom and stepdad are coming in Spring, and I'm so excited!!! I really wish my family members would visit at least semi regularly, but I understand that it's a 17 hour journey, sometimes 20, and the 1000$ ticket isn't the worst part, it's sitting on a plane that long. Also, I'm the one who moved, so I'm the one who must travel home every 1.5 years, which we've done consistently. Thankfully my husband LOVES my home city and America in general. We will be home in July and are going to see Yellowstone for the first time.
