Mag lay down

For only 30 seconds, but it was the first time I've seen him lay down intentionally due to sleepiness.

He'd just helped Bellis clean up 2nd breakfast and was stuffed full of hay. It's hot and humid out, horrid, unbearable. He was eating and then he stopped, took two steps away from the hay, and purposefully lay down.

It's one of those moments when your heart seizes, "He's surely dying." He lay for 30 entire seconds, and then the fear got the better of him and he stood up.

The important thing was there was no intention to roll, it was a natural sleepy horse thing to do.

His 30 seconds were something phenomenal for me to see. There is hope. He will overcome his fear someday. In tiny increments, less than a minute. He will lay down for 60 seconds someday.

Also, when he stood, he didn't do it in a rush, "omgosh I survived." He did it slowly, "It's all good."

After all these years, I've recently (because of lockdown, I'm HERE all the time now!) learned how much time the Dragon spends snoozing in the pasture, flat out on the ground not far from the pasture gate.

The answer is a LOT. Hours each day! Usually in 20 minute segments, but on very warm, humid days she will lie down for an hour, and lay flat with her head on the ground 20-30 minutes of that.

It looks like somebody let the air of out a Macy's balloon, srsly. Usually with two smaller goat-shaped balloons nearby. I wonder who stands watch? Maybe the crows.

Also, she snores.
