The continuing horse search (and Breaking Dawn!)

It would sure be nice to find a horse soon. I look every day to see if anyone has put up any new ads.

I was emailed last week by a lady who has the domain name www.endurancehorses.eu and as to be expected, the horse was out of my range.

This is the horse, it was one of those price not listed ads that make you call. That always means too much money. They want 7500 for this mare.

It looks like mostly rich people ride Arabians in Germany.

Then the same lady wrote me back to tell me about a slightly less expensive horse, and I had to tell her, she has the best photo yet in my entire search. These people know how to stand up a horse! I did tell her I don't like Seabiscuit legs (nor Eight Belles pasterns, nor tied in!), and the fact she's using a lip chain on the mare for the photo concerns me. She replied that all the race horses go in lip chains. OK then. Horses as commodities then. Then I did it, I opened up my Wiszi folder and remembered how balanced Wiszi is, how straight and strong her legs are, agh, why did I have to do that.

Then I found this gelding and I fell in love with the photos.

Same age, same height as Wiszi, and 1000Euros less.

But still out of range.

I really like this horse, but sadly he's also too much money.

Standardbreds: I keep finding safe, sensible huge horses, or wild dangerous less-huge ones.

I found a chestnut mare with her mane on the wrong side for only 990E and thought, Uh oh...what is wrong with her? I actually like that the ad says, "Can canter on a lungeline" - hehee, who needs cantering anyway? OK I just emailed them asking why so cheap.

It's depressing to look at the ads. So many stallions, and so many horses over 20 that people want to get rid of. And all these super expensive Arabians. I found one that she said "I paid 11K euros for this mare and won't take less than 6K for her" and I'm thinking, you idiot why did you pay 11K for a trail horse? People are deluded here I think.

On a lighter note, I saw Breaking Dawn tonight with a Spanish colleague and even though I warned him that Edward breaks the bed, at the moment when Edward broke the headboard, he burst out laughing his trademark infectious laugh, so loud, the entire theater joined in. I was crying I was laughing so hard. Also he jumped up and started scolding people in Spanish to shush up during the serious scenes. Then he switched to German, it was so cute.

Seeing Bella turn into a skeleton was very nice, I felt like the movie honored the book. I knew I'd have to deal with a lot of honeymoon, and that was OK, but I'm especially glad about the gore in the film. It needed to be bloody and disgusting and it truly was. The wolves, again, are so woefully under-budgeted, but the scenes of the Northwest make up for it. My Spanish buddy was so surprised when I pointed to the forest scene and said, "Meine Heimat!" He was like, "Really, that's your home!!!??"

My favorite parts are, as usual, the Cullen vampires and their interactions, as well as the wolf interactions. But omgosh, the speeches at the wedding were such an unexpected surprise, I was rolling!

OK now, ready for some Volturi and Renesmee!

Wow I agree that gelding is very pretty!!

Are you set on an arab? If you want smaller, arent there decent ponies there?

I spent last weekend near Forks, WA and so Twilight was ever present on my mind. We never saw the sun once -- good vampire weather. That gelding is beautiful but I'm not sure what I think of the look in his eye - a bit worried? That first mare is to die for. I remember when Arabians were ridiculously expensive here too -- an equine status symbol really. Good luck on your search. You and your future will eventually find each other.

That gelding is gorgeous! Imagine having him cavorting all over your beautiful green pastures!

It's interesting to hear how owning an Arabian in Germany seems to be mostly for rich people. Imagine what your neighbors and passersby must have thought after you moved into your home with Baasha. "Oh look at those rich people with their fancy Arabian!"
hee hee!

Leeshy-Lou, I agree!

Crystal, I am set on an Arab as much as I am an American; ) But I have a plan to get a husband horse, and why not open up my search to the husband horse first?

Annette, You really were over there? Isn't it lovely? We were there before the filming and the restaurant waitress told us about this great big film that will make their town famous and I was like "whatever" but then it happened. I will always remember my first trip to Forks, we were told to "Go Back To Seattle!" by some locals in a Trans Am, and I saw a bumper sticker that said "Are you an Environmentalist or do you work for a living?" (wonderful).

I cannot remember when Arabs were expensive cuz I got mine in 1989.

Thank you for thinking of us: )

Lisa, I cracked up when I read your comment. *LOL*I wish I knew, if that were conceivable, perhaps? *LOL* And I hate to think of all the times I do act like an American princess, "What, no shopping on Sunday!?" and now with the Hybrid car, the people who refused to sell me Wiszi thought I was rich, I knew it when they mentioned something about the car and I was like, "It's a 2004, we could never afford a NEW car!" Ugh.

HAHAHAHAHA "the mane is on the "wrong" side." I deliberately trained Fee's mane to fall on her left side to expose her tattoo!

I like the bay arab gelding's face well enough, but the chestnut standie mare is actually very pretty. I know you love Arabs...but you also love prettiness....

What a fine thing if you were able to get one who was "not fast enough for the sport" (harness racing) because those horses are so fabulous as trail/endurance horses!!!

And I think that the bright red chestnut color is very pretty. >g< I'll show you how to teach tall horses to stretch out so you can climb on easier, I've got a bunch of pictures on my computer at home!

Aarene, how on earth did you train Fiddle's mane to go on the wrong side? I didn't know that was possible. (Well only with horses whose manes are on *both* sides.)

Dang it now you're getting me excited. The only thing I didn't mention was:

Deutscher Traber, Stute
7 Jahre, 159cm, Fuchs
Tolles Freizeitpferd fürs Gelände. Nicht schreckhaft, geht ins Wasser und kennt kleine Sprünge. Geht Galopp an der Longe. Sie kennt Offenstall und verträgt sich mit allen Artgenossen.

159 cm is just under 16 hands so not too big. It says "great trail horse, not spooky, goes in water and over little jumps. canters on the lunge." she's kept in an "open barn" (that means no barn, just a shelter and paddock/field) and she gets along with all others. hm. we'll see what happens. it could be a "fine thing" as you say.

lytha, if I were more organized about the mane, I'd use a "mane tamer" (one of those lyra socks that go over the neck). But I just used braids because I'm lazy.

I AM EXCITED! Is "Fuchs" (fox?) the color, or her name? Not a bad name for a standie...>g< She matches your hair.

WV: shint
a very subtle clue. did you get my shint about the matching color?

Lovely gelding! You should just contact them and ask them if they would consider an offer.... tell them what you can afford, and see what they say. A lot of people are willing to work with a client's price range if they will give the horse an excellent home. It's always worth a try! And you never know... just making the connection with the owners and "planting a seed" often opens doors for other opportunities.

That gelding is cute! I love his face. That sucks that Arabs are so expensive over there. I hope you find the right horse soon. It must be so frustrating!

aarene, yah fuchs means fox which is the word for chestnut here.

jenny, i did exactly that but was too embarrassed to admit it (but i have learned that doing it the other way doesn't work.) i gave them what i can afford, and then told them about our place here. i have not heard back. i will have to ping them again soon.

achieve, i agree, unfair!! horses in general are more expensive here, and arabs, i cannot believe it.

I was soooo not happy with the movie..lol I was ready to go half way through it and seriously they could fo finished the entire movie in one go. I thought the wolf speaking parts were so slap stick comedy that I swear they are going to show up on one of those spoof movies.

the scenery of course was beautiful but I am ready for it to be all over..one more to go! lol

lytha said...

sonya, of course you loved the scenery: ) i knew what it had to be about: one horribly long drawn out wedding, one horribly long drawn out honeymoon, and then sick bella. they did just that and way more sick bella than i'd hoped. but that is really what the book was about, and after three books of abstinence and then no sex at all in the books, the movie goers deserved to see what really happened. i was hoping it would move along a little faster though! the jacob scenes were just awful, i don't know why but it seemed like all his lines were delivered so poorly. that was the feeling i got from the first film, that no one was really acting well. the underbudged wolves are so bad! but i love the seth and leah bits, i love that dynamic between the three of them. i think they picked the perfect leah, she was exactly as i imagined. i can't wait til the whole set it released so i can own them!

The right one will come along!!!

Your story about Breaking Dawn cracked me up!!!
I heard it wasnt very good?

There have been reports here in the states about people having convulsions after watching the birth scene, because of the flashing red and white lights. Weird huh.
I will wait until it is on PPV or cable, before I see it.
One movie I am going to see in the theater in War Horse! I hope it is as good as it looks in the trailers!!!!
