88F : (

I wanted to get an early start mowing today because it was supposed to be hot but the grass was all wet. I waited til 11 and it was still wet but got it done anyway - just finished - 3pm. OK there was a vet visit in there somewhere - Dr Paufler just wanted to stain the eyes again and look at them with a light. He was surprised - "All good!"

We discussed worming strategies and I disagree with his - he said they use one type per year. Huh. I dunno about that.

As I was almost finished mowing I got bit twice by a horsefly - awful things came out today. I have a welt where he bit me. Baasha is coated in flyspray but I can see they are attacking him anyway.

The neighbors horses across the street have kept in a tight bunch all day miserably swishing and snorting and stamping. Here's Shiela sitting on the ground rubbing her belly on the grass.

Frontline doesn't seem to work (vet confirmed we need a new medicine) against ticks on the cat, poor thing. She's not really a tame cat so removing them is almost impossible.

Here's one that I got off her recently. I put them in the microwave to be sure they're dead before I flush them. I do not touch them with my fingers (like all the Germans do) and I don't try to crush them because I'm never sure they're dead.

UPDATE:
It's 94F and climbing at 5:30pm. AGGHHH Ich sterbe jetzt!

Microwave ticks?! Wow! Thats hard core!

So glad to hear Baasha's eye is better. Nothing like the right meds.

We use Advantage on fleas and ticks here. Frontline stopped being effective last year.

I didn't think Advantage worked on ticks . . . unless they've changes it. Be sure to check the label. We have tons of ticks here to and I never use Frontline anymore.

It gets almost up to 100F here lol. I hope it cools off for you soon. :)

Ugh, ticks are so gross. They're evil. I hate touching bugs but I make an exception for ticks and horseflies - I squish them with my bare hands til they pop. DIE EVIL THING!

So glad to hear Baasha's eyes are improving! What's the plan now - do you still have to put ointment in them?

There's been some really good articles on thehorse.com about worms in the last couple of years. I tried to explain it just now but did a horrible job of it. I will see if I can find the article I'm thinking of and share it with you. Anyway your vet is different from what you're used to, but maybe not incorrect according to the current theories.

Wow, that is a nasty tick! We don't have a tick problem here, but every now and then we get one on the dogs.
My vet just told me to not deworm as much as I use too and to not rotate the dewormers as often. So instead of deworming with 4 class types of dewormers, to only use 2 or 3 due to the "resistance" to the dewormers.
I was at a horse show last weekend where it was 80-95 degrees. I thoroughly enjoyed it considering all we have had at home is rain! We have only had a couple days over 70 degrees this year. Still waiting for spring.....

Ewwwww! I hate ticks. We used to live in an area where they were rampant - when the dogs came inside from going to the bathroom, I'd see them crawling on their hair!
Ugh...hot weather for you. The map doesn't look all that promising!
The only time I was in Germany it was unseasonably hot - my son was there three weeks before our visit, and he had unseasonably cold temps for his visit!
Hope the weather turns for the better!
