My bat and some Taco Bell

We have a ton of bats where we live in Germany but they never camp out on our house, thankfully. There is no rabies in Germany but there certainly is in America and that's where a bat made its home, on my window.

It would have been OK but I'm fond of fresh air and always want that window open. And the fly screen it was living on had a bigger-than-bat-sized hole in it, right there next to my bat.

So my dad, 79 years old and suffering dementia (that's why we're here) climbed up a ladder and impaled the bat with a garden hook, took it down and, well, dispatched the bat thoroughly.

I screamed but I was so grateful cuz I'd recently read an article about a bat entering a man's home in the Netherlands, landing on his face as he slept, then biting him. AGH.

My dad then gave the bat a proper burial and disinfected his garden tool with gasoline. That's how it's done in Mason county.

J has never been to Taco Bell cuz I'm a huge Taco Time fan and well, ya know, Taco Bell is crap. But I recently learned that Taco Bell has a taco where the shell is made out of Doritos. And Doritos are my favorite man-made food. How ingenious! So we carefully socially distanced and ordered with the screen. Part of the ordering process was to select how many packets of hot sauce we wanted.

I clicked 2 hot and 2 fire, so, 4.

Guess how many I got. FOURTEEN.

*LOL* I explained to J that this is typical Taco Bell behavior but it's especially surprising to us because in Germany if you order fries at McDonalds you pay 25 cents extra for a single packet of ketchup, and one packet is never enough.

I explained to J, "The typical American car will have a supply of Taco Bell hot sauce in its glove box. In fact, let's see......"

And I reached around and opened the central console of my sister's car that she loaned us and indeed, there was a bunch of Taco Bell hot sauce.

Also, as of 1 April, we tested ourselves, the pain-free method!

I recently learned that if you order Macdonald's fries in India, they include packets of piri piri spice that people love so much they insist that family coming to the US for visits bring an extra bag of piri piri packets ;-)

That said, I had a food truck street taco today that nearly made me weep, it was so perfectly delicious. Or maybe I'm just tired of home cooking after a year?

Bats are protected here. We lost almost all of them to white nose disease. I miss seeing them flap around at night. Part of me was very sad thst this bat was killed. But back in the day my parents didn’t worry about it.

I love bats, I'm sorry he had to die!

But Doritos, I knew we were meant to get together some day, watch Star Trek and eat Doritos. They are my guilty pleasure!
