Walmart etc

Walmart is a sort of Disneyland for us because it's massive, and the clientele is unconcerned about going out in public dressed like that. The employees seem to be hired based on creative appearance, it is a land of free spirits. People walking around without masks, not even around their necks!

The excessive friendliness was again a shock for us, the heartfelt apologies of shoppers who don't realize they're blocking an aisle, and of course the employees whose chattiness is non-stop.

I was called sweetie and honey today by total strangers.

J is still cracking up about the fact you can buy a tire for your truck at Walmart, and roll it over to the self-checkout.

I'm refusing to eat food I can get in Germany so it's basically all processed foods from my youth. I had Taquitos for breakfast today because I missed them so much, and blue corn chips and salsa/conqueso cuz I haven't had Mexican food in 3 long years.

We went to the chamber of commerce to get some tourist brochures but there wasn't anything interesting except for a marina that sells fresh local oysters. I'm gonna go get me some, and perhaps some lobster tails. Seafood and Mexican are the two foods I miss most.

People out here in Shelton don't take pride in their properties, at least most of them don't seem to. Every second house has a broken down car rotting into the grass, and just random junk stacked up. It's a pity because the landscape is so gorgeous.

I haven't been on the water yet but I hope to get on a boat before I have to go back.

The Olympic mountains were out today, as well as a massive Mt Rainier that just hovered there like a hologram. I'm enjoying the cedars, alders, salal and sword ferns with glacial/river rock as if placed by hand on purpose.

And then there was a bat on my window...

a-a-a-and the complete lack of masks is why I won't go anywhere NEAR Walmart. Not that I went there in the Before-Times, either. I've discovered that I don't want anything in the world badly enough to go into Walmart to get it.

Stay safe! Keep writing!

Enjoy the scenery while you can! I'm surprised that international travel is allowed again. The border between Canada and the US is still closed to non commercial travel.

Shirley, Travel is not allowed except under specific conditions that we fit. 1. I'm an American citizen travelling home and 2. My husband showed our wedding certificate to the airline and still had quite the runaround at the airport getting permission. 3. We both had doctor's notes saying we tested negative for covid within 72 hours of flying and 4. we are not here as tourists, we're here for a family emergency. There is no way J would have been allowed to fly without me. It was quite the hassel but we certainly are enjoying the scenery. And today, the Taco Bell *lol*
