After Susanne did some work with Mag and fabrics, I hung up all the rain coats and the rump rug around the stall. It looked pretty tacky but I wanted Mag to brush past them every time he went in and out of the stall.
Today I had the idea to hang them above the entrance, making a trail course "car wash" obstacle. I know that Mag's main problem is having the rain coat above him, over his back especially. Ingenious huh?
I built the car wash and put a fresh net of hay in the stall to invite them in.
Mag walked right in without hesitation! Amazing. Once in there he took a bite of hay and then noticed the new decor and threw his head up, alarmed, but pushed his head between the coats to peek out.
Hilarious to me, the donkey wouldn't go in. I cracked up laughing at her, "You're gonna lose weight if you refuse to go in and eat!" I was prepared to go get some apples but after she watched Mag go in and out a few times (quite loudly) she pushed her nose against the coats to assure herself they move, and then she braved it.
Whew! Since they go in and out dozens of times per day, I'm really hoping this will work and I'll be able to wear that coat again - or *any* coat!
It looks like 3 bodies hanging there - fitting for Halloween. When I first took a look at my work I felt a wave of creepiness, but realized Mag wouldn't see them that way.
Today I finally put up my Christmas lights and they're all on timers so I can wake up to them in the morning and come home to them at night. The photo above is from Sunday.

Perfect...umm he isn't going to tear down the scary stuff and stomp it into the mud, is he? Asking for a friend....
Aarene, puppies? Lord keep them away.
Ummm ...so just wondering ... did Mag ever have an issue with you riding in a raincoat or are you referring to the Ani incident? I understand he doesnt like you “sacking” him with it, but just wondering if he ever pulled a stunt with you in the saddle.
Had to laugh about Mags noticing only after he'd gone by them. Such a horse lol.
ND, Mag snorts at me when I approach him wearing my rain coat. He has not reacted badly under saddle with it, but he worries about it in general. The other day I wore a winter hat and he backed away from me snorting *lol* Going back through my old photos I found out I had that rain coat on my first two rides on Mag at the seller's..so...hm.
Camryn, since I completely blocked the doorway with coats, I noticed Mag not hanging out (dozing) in the stall anymore, so I removed one so he can see out, but still must brush past/under them.
On a CT ride the early days with Khari, one of the "obstacles" was a yellow rain coat on a hanger that was flipped through the air at us. I thought she'd go over backward! I finally asked to TAKE & draped it over her. Once she realized what it was - she was fine :-)
