Sterile hoof photo

I was just saying how Mara has finally lots some fluffiness but this photo makes her look like a puffball *snap*. 
You'll have to trust me I guess that she went from ~14 hands high and 10 hands wide, to ~14 hands high and 8 hands wide. She's just slightly less 3 dimensional when I look at her now. The two areas that the difference is most clear are the neck and tailhead. If you go back to April (glorious Spring!) you'll see a horse with way less hair, but with a scary amount of padding.



Here is her left hind hoof after 6 days in a virtually sterile environment. The slight yellow/green tinge is from the Rivanol (something everyone here seems to know about and I'd never heard of). You can see where the vet was exploring with a knife, and where he found the culprit just above the apex of the frog. I find it fascinating how a frog appears after regular sterilization - it makes me want to keep my horse in a germ free bubble and see what happens then. Oh well...

The coronary band took on the Rivanol color too.


We're down to 3 ml bute twice daily, and I did some (walking only) groundwork with her today across the street. She is moving fine at a walk, and galloping around her field like nothing ever happened. I'm anxious to see her trot again but I'll wait a few more days.
