My photos

I got some photos of the two on our lower grazing strip yesterday (and I gimped them for color).
Baasha is all bundled up because coming off the sedative he was shivering and I cannot stand that. It's about 7 degrees C.

I tested our fence and it's 10,000 volts all the way around. That's the maximum electric fences can go, so I've read. It's also the voltage used for the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I've been warned about donkeys not respecting fences, and being less sensitive than horses, so I turned it up. I'm keeping them in the grazing strips for the purpose of testing the fence, actually. Or, I should say, testing the donkey. The dinosaurs tested the fences regularly, like Baasha did today. Like those dinosaurs, he won't test that exact spot again, I'm sure.

Blurry but this is the first time I've seen Bellis recline outside. I cracked up yesterday when I put that dark red blanket on Bellis and IT FIT - lengthwise. It hung down to her knees and looked ridiculous. So her head is bigger than Baasha's, and her back is just about as long. *lol* (To be honest the blanket is a little too short for Baasha, lengthwise, but it still works as a second blanket.) I wonder how I'll find a blanket that fits her. She needs a raincoat.

She found a low hanging Ash branch and got it, I was laughing, I hope she does trim the trees for us. So far she likes our hazelnut, beech, and birch.

This is that look she gives me all the time. She's thinking, "I think I'll go get in her personal space again!" How 7MSN sits in her pasture and drinks margaritas with donkeys is beyond me.

Also, have you ever seen a donkey run? Usually Bellis is slow-motion-equine, but when she feels like sprinting across the pasture, it is hilarious. There is no dignity or grace in a donkey galloping. She holds her head straight out like a charging goose, neck inverted. I would love to get a photo of this if I'm ever lucky enough to have the camera when she runs. Thankfully Bellis is so slow about everything she does, a very peaceful companion for a flighty Arabian. It's true what they say that donkeys are not flight animals.

They see something.

It's two Roe deer passing through.

It's soooo wonderful to see Baasha & Bellis together so peacefully. We're hoping to move to larger property next year. You're making adding a Donkey as Camryn's friend beyond tempting.

So how would you say those two are getting along? From your photos, they look like they are comfortable together. Is Baasha glad to have a "pal"? Love the photos, your pasture looks very peaceful.

Love it! I am sure she will trim those for you.. I ended up putting Boo's extra heavy blanket on him last night. We got down to probably 30 here last night, and, I had body clipped him... Need him clipped down because I need to treat some fungus on him....

Cool!! So glad they are getting along!!
They are funny critters! LOL
They probably dont get shocked easy because of their dense hair.

Looks like Baasha is accepting her.

Looks like they are getting along well together :) Sounds like a perfect match, a quiet slow moving donkey matched with a quick flighty horse.

Good to see them together happily. Didn't know donkeys tested fences like that. Good to learn!

my Stormy had a mule girlfriend once. I think he was a bit embarrassed about it.
Maybe we should get dinosaur voltage for our fences around here! the cows just walk back and forth right through the barbed wire.

I meant to tell you before about the Morning Bray Farm blog http://morningbrayfarm.com/ If you have any donkey questions I bet they can help you! They have to be experts in donkeys by now lol. Their herd of donkeys are absolutely gorgeous. :D

I'm glad they seem to be getting along so well!!! I think it's been more of an adjustment for you than for Baasha hehehe.
