My man does not want me to post this photo on my blog because he says it's too Photoshopped*. There was no warm sunrise glow behind my horse. I just added yellow and to me it looks like a painting. I love the way Baasha is startled about a herd of horses who are running up behind him.
I sat in the leaves a long time torturing that herd of horses who were wondering what the heck we were doing off trail near their field. It's one of my favorite things to do - sneaking up on a herd and holding very still so when they eventually discover us, they think we're apparitions. Baasha knows I'm having fun and he always holds perfectly still while we hide. I rarely did this in America because the trails rarely passed horse fields, and it is almost impossible to go offtrail - the underbrush is too thick, so you can't sneak around offtrail easily. Here all the trails pass horsefields, one after another. Seeing how close we can get to oblivious grazing horses is so much fun.
Baasha sees some neighbors go hiking by on the trail and even though we were not far, they never noticed us!
Baasha turned to get a good look at the herd. My grandmother used to say never take a photo facing the sun but some of the prettiest photos I've seen (in your blogs too) have this perspective. (I did not add the rainbow effect to the sun.)
I think he smells his old friends from the Pony Party (they've since moved out of our neighborhood: (... we sure miss them).
Hmmm...Winter halter size change --- apparently I have to drop two holes due to his furry face?
I keep forgetting to post a photo of our snowbells. This year they don't have to contend with snow (so far).

I love the photo of the sun over Baasha. His intent stare makes me want to see whatever he is seeing...so, he dragged me into the picture! The sun 'star' over him is beautiful. You are right...we always were told to have the sun at our back...but sometimes....
Wow! That 4th photo down is incredibly beautiful. I've never used photoshop...too complicated for my tech-challenged brain. lol!
But when a photo needs a little something I will stop by Picnik to do some editing. Most of my photos are as is, or I do some slight contrast adjustments if they seem 'washed out'.
I have no problems with photo editing, especially if it saves a so-so photo and turns it into something spectacular (like yours). Some folks do tend to reply on photo editing for each and every photo they take and don't try to improve their photo taking skills.
I'm amazed that you have pretty spring flowers poking through already. Our weather is warm enough, but we are probably way to dry for anything to grow.

Sounds like my kind of game. Ozzy would be really good at it. I can see him and Baasha laughing at the other horses.
I don't even know what Gimp is so there you go. LOL
I love the photo of the sunburst over Baasha as well. I think it's funny he knows your game and stands perfectly still too. Good for him. He looks great in this pics hair and all.
Dreaming, thank you, when you posted this comment i said to my man, "ha, you are wrong! 100% of my readers liked my adjusted color photos!" *lol*
Lisa, although neither you nor i use it, we are still photoshopping when we adjust brightness or contrast to make a photo less washed out. i cross-referenced to be sure i have the definition correct:
- A slang term used to describe any image that has been digitally manipulated or altered.
- To alter (a digital photograph or other image), using an image editing application, especially Adobe Photoshop.
- Manipulation for photo restoration or enhancement (adjusting colors / contrast / white balance (i.e. gradational retouching), sharpness, removing elements or visible flaws on skin or materials, ...)

we use the same camera - at least i think - a canon powershot sx130is. it has a "vivid color" mode so technically i could use this mode and say SOOC but i don't feel right about that. i wonder if you use a tripod to get such clear shots of your animals?
i love it when people show before and after manipulation shots so their photoshopping is evident and it helps people realize what can be done to create contest-winning photos. sometimes i wonder what pioneer woman's kids really look like.
here's a great (Pie Near Woman) link about photoshopping to improve the appearance of your children:

dom, i think so too: )
mikael, gimp stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. it's got the word "manipulate" right in there so i feel i should declare it when i do it! *lol* i wouldn't want to misrepresent life in germany. unless i start getting paid to work for the tourism industry. then i'm all about the money: )
Photos are gorgeous! Have a wonderful Sunday!
I don't see any problems with adjusting the brightness or coloring of a photo as long as it doesn't really change the basic idea of the photo. I mean, creating a pink sky for the effect of sunrise is overdoing it but taking away a glare in order to better view the photo is okay. I crop photos to remove unwanted bits and pieces all the time.
I love those photos of Baasha and his beautiful blue blanket.
I love GIMP. That's what I use too. I edit all of my photos . . . I just crop them, adjust the contrast (most of mine overexpose on the auto setting of my digital camera, but I don't know how to adjust manual settings based on lighting so I just do it in GIMP) and resize them. I never really thought of that being misleading though . . . it's not like I'm claiming they are something they are not and they belong to me . . . confused. Anyway I love the pictures and it does not bother me at all that you edited them. It looks very natural. :) Oh and Baasha is gorgeous as always.
I believe in photo editing. I also believe in:
spell check
make up
hair cuts
plucking my eyebrows
and the occasional splash of show sheen.
That said, I never have time anymore for fixing my pictures.
I think that shot is lovely. The blanket looks like velvet.
NEATO!!! I so love to "mare walk"- like your sneaking walk, near pastures this day with Baasha!
It's okay to add a little to your photos... I mean, who cares if it is SOTC?? You can say that next time it is, so there!
With our bleak/bright skies and action shots I take...all is so washed out, I often darken them.
Loved the sunrays!!I too (as you know) love that shot..and take so many versions of it..heading into the SUNSETS!
Loved this time with you and your grey man!
