I stopped Baasha to watch them work. He could have cared less. New house, yawn. Men on the roof, pffft. They were tossing roofing tiles to each other, and snapping them into place. One man was sweeping/shovelling the snow from the roof at the same time. The snow was coming down faster than he could sweep it off. Lots of snow is still under those tiles. He'd shake down big sheets of snow over our heads and Baasha didn't blink. Tarps were waving in the wind.
That's my son. The one that the photographer could not get to "Look" for anything. Trying to evoke--or predicting--a fear reaction in my horse is useless.
Scary
Further down, we heard a rustling in the bushes and I could tell a child was playing in his yard in the snow. I never knew they had a kid. Neither did Baasha. He was very upset about it. "That child does not belong here!" he seemed to say, as he snorted loud warnings to the neighbor horses or anyone who would listen.
We were there so long. Baasha was a rock hard statue, all muscles tense. He posed and stared and blew and pawed the air, "Don't you see? This does not belong!" He'd circle me, making that deep "purring" noise horses do when they're worried.
The kid has a grey jacket on. Is that it, Baasha? Is he camoflaged? I can clearly see him playing. He's in a dreamworld, that's all, that's where kids go when they don't notice things (neighbor with horse).
The kid never turned to look at this loudly snorting horse on the sidewalk. Twice Baasha tried to run right through me, as if I wasn't standing there. I slapped him with the rope but he was really beside himself.
Flashback to when he was three, always running right into me for safety. I didn't know he still had that in his book of behaviors.
The Hippies are Back

(Baasha almost destroyed that birdfeeder yesterday, as I led him around the front yard. He was trying to eat the seeds. His head is too big for the opening so he has learned to stick out his tongue to get seeds. I don't think it's good for him, so I pulled him away, and he was adamant, and the poor birdfeeder fell, swinging sideways. I was able to fix it, but only barely. Off limits!)
Meds
Baasha got his meds in an oral syringe tonight cuz I want to be sure he gets them all. He's on Sulfa drugs and an expectorant from his coughing/congestion. I remember way back in 2005, my vet teasing me for not knowing what Sulfa drugs are.
NOW I know. They were invented here, in my man's hometown of Wuppertal, at Bayer, in 1932. Saving thousands of lives in the war, they were the first antibiotics. No wonder my old vet laughed at me. I think Baasha's gonna be feeling a lot better real soon.
And More Snow

I'll be really happy when that snowflake warning light in my dashboard finally turns off. It warns that the temp is below freezing, and to drive carefully. Will it ever go off?

PS - The blue photo was edited for color by the Gimp. I had to mention it in case anyone thinks Baasha is the ice horse of the Antarctica. Blue Baasha is much colder than grey Baasha. He is the ice horse of NRW!

I can't believe the amount of snow you have it's amazing. It's weird for us to still have snow on the ground, today the sun was out oh the joy! Stay warm and drive careful.
Goodness you do still have a lot of snow, and are much colder than us, we are only -2. My horses are wanting to stay out much longer. Glad Baasha's meds have come. Hope he gets better soon.
I'm glad to hear that this winter is unusual! I can't imagine you spending every winter like this, forever and forever...argh!
Stay warm, Lytha. And Baasha too, you big goofball.
More snow? Incredible. I wonder what this will do to lake levels...
Our deer get on their hind hoofs to lick our peanut butter/bird seed pine cones.
The love seeds too.
Yikes! I'm in Seattle, and currently it's around 50 degrees. I do not miss the snow, not at all. I grew up in PA and had too much of it. Beautiful pictures!

I just realized you're from Seattle too! Small, small world! Where did you keep your boy when you lived here?
