Feeding the birds in winter is so rewarding. We just bought another 5 kilos of seed and I love watching to see how many different species of bird eat at one time. Or how many wait in the branches for the mean ones to get full and leave. I have learned my German birds!
Only in the snow did the Amsel come, they are a cousin to the Robin, I think, cuz they look and act so much alike. Wouldn't you be surprised if a Robin butted in on all the chickadees and sparrows on your feeder? All the little guys wait patiently til the Amsel is done!
That's my chair, double dog daring me to sit down on it.
"I triple dog dare you!" - chair.
Birdhouses on the barn.
That is about as far as Baasha would venture out of his stall the first 4 days of snow. I admit, my enjoyment of the snow is lessened because my dear Baasha cannot enjoy it! For his sake, I want it to go away...but I love snow!!!!!!!!!
I took him out to the pasture today, and he immediately started digging in the snow and eating the grass under there. I thought it was fascinating how horses know this method. Then he raised his head and nickered at me repeatedly, like, I dunno....(think Lassie barking) I didn't get it. What did he want to tell me?
If I try really hard to interpret it, I'd say he meant, "Why Germany?!?!"
My poor Prius. Do you see the drifts of snow I've shoveled?
Love our woodstove! We spend a lot of time in front of it lately. (Oops, there should not be candles on there with a fire - don't worry, I removed them right away.)
This is the Gluehwein I prefer. I prefer it because it has two pretty horses on the label. (Pic was taken in November. Obviously, hehe.)
Here are some of our Christmas candles.
Our crooked little tree: )
Yule Log!! Did you know you can watch the Yule Log anytime, anywhere? I sure do miss watching that Yule Log channel with my aunt Mary. (The Yule Log is a fireplace on TV all day long for people without fireplaces. We have a woodstove, but it makes me feel American to watch the Yule Log on YouTube.)
Merry Christmas bloggers!!

Horse-Human Babelfish Service:
"nicker-nicker-nicker-nicker" =
"where are my Christmas cookies, woman?"
Not sure of the German translation, that's not my department!
Merry snowy Christmas. Carrots to Baasha and hugs to you both!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Carrots... I mean Christmas! (Tell Baasha to stop getting into my head.)
Merry Christmas to you, your husband and (of course) Baasha!
Baasha looks beautiful in the snow, too bad his eyes don't like the dry air.
I often have the "fireplace channel" on at home, my husband thinks I'm a bit of a dork for it. lol I just told him to buy me my dream acreage with a fireplace or wood stove! ;)
Merry Christmas, Lytha!
And thanks for sharing your snow pics.....it is sooooo beautiful but glad we don't have any at the moment. LOL
Merry Christmas to you all, have a wonderful day in the snow and sitting by that cozy fire!
I am new to your site, jumped over from Commanches, but I noticed you are from Seattle! I live in Puyallup. Just wanted to say hi, and I LOVE your pics. of Baasha! Look forward to following your blog also to hear more about Germany...we are hoping to travel there in the near future.
Leah, his eye is better but still gooey so I'm rinsing it and treating it. Today it looks better than yesterday. It's a day to day thing, I guess.
Mrs. Mom, I will greet Baasha for you. Did you know it is a very German thing to send greetings to people you've never met? hehe
Kate, Thank you, you too!
Aarene, but it was not a situation where I'd ever give carrots - it was just as I released him into his field. It had something to do with snow, that's for sure.
Breathe, Thank you! We just got another 40 pounds of carrots! So his carrot intake has quardrupled.
Sonya, Merry Christmas to you too. I sure hope you had snow for the first time.
NM, he's in UR head, askin for noms?
Cdncowgirl, you watch the Yule Log too!!!!
Rising Rainbow, thanks for visiting. I have been enjoying your blog lately. You are a great storyteller!
Grey Horse Matters, on Christmas day, we stayed in all day!
Cousin B, like, Do the Puyallup? Sorry. Couldn't resist. I am happy you like the photos, but I take a lot of crappy ones that I have to delete. However, I don't retouch anything, cuz I want my pics to be honest. I will incorporate more about life in Germany on Sundays, and even some of my old writings about just moving here and the culture shock.
Lytha-Another great post as always! I especially loved Baasha's Germany comment, I think it was in the last post! As always, I thoroughly enjoy your blog; may the New Year bring us all blessings and some relief for poor Baasha's eyes!
