The weather has been pelting our house sideways all week. My man and I toss and turn at night, listening to it batter our house. We feel safe knowing how long this house has stood, but it still wakes us up.
I run my hand under Baasha's blanket to make sure it is still working. He seems OK, but he has been spending a lot of time in that stall. So much that my manure pile needs resorting, and I don't want to do that in this sideways rain and high wind!
My man dropped down another bale tonight (I asked him cuz I hate going up into our loft at night). This bale was weedless and full of green. Not American hay green, but greener than German norm. I was so thankful. Baasha will love it. Where was he? He ran himself out to the pasture all day and apparently turned his back on that weather. Good for you son! It is the rare horse seen in Germany at pasture nowadays.
The blackbirds are eating the remaining apples from our trees, and our trout are as hungry and vibrant as ever. I really need a new hook. (My theory on why we cannot catch them lately is because our hook is too dull.) These rainbow, spotted monsters leap out of the water when I come, showing their pretty patterns, and gobble up the food. Makes it hard to want to eat them.
Baasha hasn't needed any eye medicine all week. It has been hard for me to go out into that blasting ice cold rain to tend to his feet and feel his ears. But my man comes too, sometimes, and hugs and cuddles with him, talking to him. Baasha is bright eyed and furry this week, and doesn't mind that the weather is keeping us both indoors. He nickers at us everytime we come out of the house. He gets his mashes warm these nights.
7 C tonight.
Maybe next week I'll go riding. It's easier to justify not, when the horse hates the rain too: )
Here are geese escaping this weather.

I don't know how you do it! I'm such a thin skinned Texan, I'd never make it more than a week. It's in the low 60s here and I'm whining already!
Baasha certainly loves his pasture time. no matter the weather...
We're down to the 20sC at night and 30sC during the day, which is normal for this time of year - we'll get much colder before it's all done. But I think cold rain is the hardest to deal with by far!
The only times I truly whine and moan about caring for the horses are when we have a cold rain. I think that is just the pits as far as weather.
Horrible here too but other than shoeing my pup outside I have avoided it as much as possible.I can handle the rain it's the wind and rain that sucks! Hope your weekend goes better.
We've got the rain and wind over here too..the wind is gone but the rain is here to stay..Hope you have a good weekend. We are without a car until monday and I really hate being stuck to the house!
What is 7C in F? I don't like the icy rains at all! I'm so glad Baasha's eyes are doing well now!
Your man needs a horse so you can ride together.
breathe, i wish baasha wasn't such a wimp and grazed in the rain, but he just won't.
kate, you use celsius?!
melissa, i remember your story of your wet boots, two pair.
frau, here's hoping for tomorrow!
sonya, our yellow car is back, and i am appreciating its spunk for the last week, because we've decided that it is too ....odd for us, this spanish car. (do you have seat cars in NL? a VW spinoff) we cannot trust the thing anymore. something much much better is in the works....something i have not seen yet...and am DYING to meet! next week!
FV, 7 in F? hm....well, our fridge is 10, and our freezer is 0. so i guess it means just above freezing. i expect it to get much colder! and when i have a job, we will have more than one horse. a job would be great!
Really wet, windy weather in Britain too - bridges washed away, several people killed, bad flooding. Up at the barn, a cold wind blew, and hardly anyone rode. It was freezing even with four warm layers on. I'm glad that you are all doing well. It must seem like ages ago when you had naked hippies as neighbours!
