Our car broke down this week so...
Just like when this house was built, 1890, a horse stands ready.
Hm, I just noticed our house matches our horse. White with gray and black trim. I hope our next house is bay.
Baasha's watching the neighbors destroy the remains of the fir trees they cut down this week.
Truffula Trees
I woke up to chain saws and no electricity, because the people next door wanted to remove a stand of fir trees. They were worried they'd fall on their home. I wish they had known about selectively thinning certain branches that catch the most wind, to give the trees a chance. This is what my parents had done to their fir trees. It is called "taking the sail out" of trees.
It seems neighbors are always taking down big respectable trees, *sigh*. Here is the before shot.
And here is after. There is a whole 'nother house in view now. I hope that they don't mind we don't have bedroom curtains yet. If I try to find the good in this, I can see that the old walnut tree is actually spectacular, I never noticed it before. So glad they saved it!
And here is the Baasha shot, in the backyard during all that noise. He slept right through the trees falling and the grinding of their branches.
Family Walk
It was an irresistable day, so my man and Baasha and I went for a walk.
My man made more tracks for OpenStreetMaps.org. That's always fun, cuz we go so slow together, and Baasha is always nuzzling my man and walking as close as physically possible to him.
When Baasha has goo in his eyes, my man carefully wipes them clean. I need a kleenex for that, I can't do it with my finger!
He got a couple pics of me, I only got on for a few moments without a helmet. I feel so unsafe without one on.
The sun reached out to touch where our house stands. We saw this same effect when we were considering buying this house. It seems so supernatural when that happens. (The northern lights would have been better but we're not that far up.)

That last shot is absolutely spectacular - just gorgeous! Having those trees removed certainly had a dramatic effect on your view. I would prefer the trees to seeing another house, sounds like you would too.
Melissa, it looked so amazing in real life, and less so in photos, as is always the case, but..somehow with my black background in my blog, it looked great!
I won't be photoshopping photos without issuing disclaimers!

amazing that they left a walnut tree up and took fir trees down...um, fir trees stay up a lot better than nut trees, and they don't drop branches all over everywhere either!
hahaha when I saw the picture of you on Baasha, I wondered where the heck your helmet had gone--I *know* you wear your helmet!
Sorry about the car and the trees. Do you remember when my husband thinned out the tree branches on our pine trees and the very next morning I looked out the window to see my neighbor standing in those trees looking back at me? In the future, there will be no tree trimming on this property. Baasha is so good to stand in waiting as loyal substitute to your hunk of metal.
Gorgeous where you live! Looks so relaxing and peaceful. Have a wonderful day!
That is to bad about the trees..I loved the look of it before they took them down. I hope you get your car fixed soon! We have to take ours in tomorrow for the yearly check up they have here. They tax you so hard for driving a car.
Do you have your christmas tree up yet? Im going to go hunting in germany for one around the 1st. They dont sell them early in the netherlands and I love having mine up as soon as possible.
I hope you have a happy thanksgiving..we must schedule an expat thanksgiving get together. We can roast a big turkey with all the wonderful side dishes we ate at home. I can pretty much make everything over here now:)
I know Thanksgiving isn't celebrated in Germany like it is here, but you are still American, so I wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. You have so very much to be thankful for my friend.
I hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, friends and Baasha, too.

The native Americans call it "god speaks."
For good reason, I think.
I come from the desert and it always shocks me that people cut down trees instead of fighting to preserve them.
You learn to value what is rare and beautiful - even when you move somewhere where they are abundant. It even took me years before I pulled weeds in my yard!
Oh so sad for those trees!
I laughed it up vibrantly so...your next house a Bay!!! I should paint our house BAY! We are abvout to pain this summer too...will tell Bruce about this plan!
Baasha looked so lovely next to your home there!
