I still don't see much fall here. It is truly and Indian summer, I can still wear shorts and keep the windows wide open all day. And I am still mowing the lawn every 4 days. Can you believe it?
Looking forward..
Looking back...
Looking to the side. The thermometer reads 21° C. I consider 18 to be perfect shorts weather.
Yesterday we were in the woods geocaching, and I couldn't believe how lovely the trees were. Beech trees. Massive twisting grey trunks that look like bodies entwined, and a canopy of pale green you would expect in May. No sign of fall except for I keep getting hit with falling acorns. It's not nice!
Our yard is only changing very slowly. Mostly lush and green, but our plum tree is finally naked. I mowed those leaves into the grass and never had to rake, yah! I am doing the same with the walnut trees.
Full of walnuts. We are very popular with the red German squirrels. I have to learn how to harvest and dry walnuts so we can have some.
Baasha cannot reach the apples, they are fenced, but he does try. And sometimes he gets lucky.
Every morning I gather what fell in the night, and chop them up for his mash (with carrots too).
The grapes are kind of going to waste now. I hate seeds. Bees eat them all day long.
Roses will go on thru December, I think this is why people like roses.
Heather, oops, wrong picture. I mean, I should have taken the one from the front of the house along the street, where a red and white heather garden is creating a cheerful border. I love winter flowers.
Strawberries that never got big, but tasted good anyway.
Raspberries that I cannot get enough of...
And peaches that showed up on the doorstep. I made cobbler that night. One for us, one for the neighbor lady who left them there.
After my man and I worked along the fenceline, pulling out nettles and planting new grass seed, I mowed the sacrifice area again. Baasha watched us and when we were done, he lay down for a nap in the sun.
The kids next door were jumping on their trampoline, running around with swords and axes, and Baasha lay down on his side right by all this commotion and slept a few minutes stretched out. He ran a bit in his sleep too.
He is sure enjoying the summer that should be over!

How cute that Baasha watched you mow! And its so nice that he feels safe enough to lay flat out to nap even with the neighbour children making so much noise.
Do you get much snow, or a "real" winter where you live now? I was just wondering about that when you said the roses last thru December.
Last year Fall came quicker and now summer seems to be holding on. It stays cooler but wow it's still a welcome site! They are actually selling Sinterflaas items int he store now..wich even for me is a tad early.
You know I have seen one squirrel since I moved here! they are nowhere to be found. I took them for granted..they are everywhere in Oregon! I keep hoping to spot a hedgehog but I havent been lucky yet. Edwin didn't believe me at first when I told him that americans keep them as pets..lol
How great to have all that plant life and be able to keep up with it. I have orange, tangerine & grapefruit trees that will be coming in starting in December with the tangerines! I love them but I do have to fly north on short trips to get much for winter here. I'm in Florida!
Oh and Baasha is a doll! I just started following and hope to go back to your earlier posts to catch up! Great blog!

Love the pics of Baasha napping...Caspian took a couple of siestas today, too. We've also been having an Indian Summer, but there are definitely still signs of fall and I'm thinking that this weekend might just be our last hurrah. Roses into December?! Maybe I need to move to Germany! From your pics, I assumed that the climate was fairly similar to WA (similar trees, etc), but now I'm curious! My in-laws are traveling in Germany right now & from what I hear over e-mail they are in heaven! :) P.S. Thanks for the book suggestions...Caspian passed them along...gonna have to put those on my Chrismas list!
He runs in his sleep? How fun!
We finally got rain and our fall wildflower crop is proving that nature never gives up - not even after the worst drought we've ever seen.
Its deffinatly fall here in the NW.
I have caught 38F twice on the thermometer this week! Feels like fall! The leaves are turning and the Maple trees are shedding all their leaves.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, I do live in Minnesota. A big part of the State Fair is for them to come up with new things to fry and put on a stick. Thank goodness it's not normally what we eat.
Interesting blog! It looks like you have a beautiful place for you and your horse.
What a wonderful bounty and beauty all around! Love, Mom
OH so lovely, your area of life!!!
I really-REALLY- want to come for a visit in your off year away. I adore taking pictures too...I honestly believe it is my PASSION. Now-to make it pay!!!
I love how Baaahs lays down in his garden setting..Wa mare does love her sleep that way too...and the days she misses, like for a beach trip or early ride...she is grumpier-I swear!
The birds will make good use of any leftover grapes on the vine...I always thing that our grapes are for waste...being wine grapes that I rarely harvest and eat...but-come winter..the birds totally feast!
Too funny about the granade acorns!
Love ya's,
Kac
Such a wonderful harvest! Many blessings there for you, for sure. And Baasha is the most blessed of all. Loved your photos, Lytha!
