I'm on the Embassy's email list, and this is what they sent me today.

The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens that Al Qaeda has threatened it will conduct terrorist attacks in Germany immediately prior to and following the federal elections on September 27.
Al Qaeda recently released a video specifically warning Germany of attacks. German authorities are taking the threat seriously and have taken measures to enhance the level of security throughout the country.
The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to maintain good security practices at all times, and to maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile. Americans are advised to monitor news reports and consider the level of security present when visiting public places or choosing hotels, restaurants, and entertainment and recreation venues.
Good that I am way out here in the country. I am gonna go take Baasha for a walk now. Feeling safe here!

Country is good! Hope all is well in Germany through the end of the month.
Well thats a cheerful e-mail isnt it! I hope this is all bluff and will prove to be nothing to worry about..all the same Im glad you are out in the country!
praying for you, and Germany...
I imagine if you stay away from big, symbolic places you'd be fine?
My kids went to school across from the Texas Capitol. On September 11th I took them home and didn't come back for weeks. After all, Bush was Governor here, and we had no idea if it would be a target.
Stay safe...
Those people just won't quit will they? Stay safe, I too think being out in the country is better!
I just found your blog and have enjoyed it tremendously. I lived in Munich in 1972 while going to school at the University of Maryland during the Olympics. After the Israeli atheletes were killed our campus went through serious lockups, we all had to get "dog tags" in case we were killed, not to mention the Bader Meinhoff gang running rampant then...so I hope all goes well and you're all safe! Love your writing! Brenda from Florida
When I lived in a tiny mountain village in the midst of Eastern Europe, I was sent a similar message by the British Embassy. Don't speak English in public, take down the name sign from your business, watch out for anyone suspicious, etc, etc. Complete over-reaction. Most of the time it's just an excuse for the authorities to enact repressive new laws that enfringe our liberty (e.g. trying to force us to carry identity cards) and cover up for police ineptitude. I'm sure that you will be fine in Germany. But I bet that bin Laden will be laughing in his cave as the foreigners run around in fear and trepidation.
Kate, Yah, my man can go vote for chancellor at a little hole in the wall somewhere out here!
Sonya, do you get these emails too?
Hainshome, Thank you!
Breathe, I never thought about that, that certain places in TX were at risk!
Melissa, They are hopefully just playing with us. How rotten of them to cause us to rethink our safety and where we choose to be on Sunday.
Brenda, why thank you! That is quite a story. Do you still have your dog tag?
WHP, aha! You get the mails too! They're not normally SO serious, this one came with a red flag on it in my inbox.
That made me laugh, lol...such a friendly email! :P...living in the country has it's rewards! ;-)
Huh~ that is serious stuff...our world is in such turmoil!
Your country travels- via Baasha...should be safe!
