Something I'd never fully conceptualized in Mayfield, Kentucky, preview

There is a large spray-painted X on the front door: (

Looks like there may have been a tornado and a safety/evacuation crew marked the house with a X that it had been inspected and the 0 indicates nobody was found in the home.

I'm guessing the X means "this structure has been searched, there are no live people here"?

That was the basic strategy for emergencies like Hurricane Katrina.

X means it has been searched already.

You guys, I have to tell you there is no comparing the impact of seeing tornado devastation in real life, to seeing photos on the news, or on my blog. I can totally understand now why presidents go there personally to witness it. There is so much emotion that photos cannot show. So much WTH for me that day, as I stood there on the street between the piled up remnants trying to figure out what had happened.

I could never imagine the destruction, the ruthlessness of chance, as so many houses were destroyed, and nearby, untouched ones. I promise to do a blog entry where I went from "What is this crap" to "OMG, this was a tornado." My mom said she remembered it on the news. She actually got mad when she looked at my photos, "The news never goes so far, as to get such photos of devastation!" I'm not sure about that, I just know that you have to see and feel it with your own eyes.

I had the same experience when the road east of here finally opened up after the big Oso mudslide so I could see it IRL: "What...the...actual...hell...????"
