DQHA cutting a human

I have to admit, this is one of my favorite things to see at Equitana. When the Quarter Horses cut humans (cuz where would they get actual cows!?).

This is that same stud from my previous post, and I was troubled to see the rider kind of forcing him to do the job, with pulling him around by the bit. Perhaps the stud is awesome on real cows, but doesn't feel motivated to chase a human.

Whatever the case, I enjoyed it because the horse seemed to enjoy it more than the reining routine.

Loved how the guy on foot said, "This is so much better than Weight Watchers."

That is the silliest thing I've ever seen.

Why on EARTH would you teach a horse to chase people? Better yet: let's *breed* horses who show interest in chasing people.

What could possibly go wrong there?

Srsly, this is a thing?

I can see starting a herding dog with ducks before moving to sheep. Ducks are smaller, cheaper, and easier to keep than sheep. And heck, maybe it would be handy to have a dog that will boss ducks around (I do know a funny story about that, btw)

BUT.

I cannot imagine where teaching a horse to boss people is going to end well.

I am always amazed at how the cowboy culture is so popular. Even in Germany, people want to be cowgirls and cowboys. In the US, I'm sure they would have found cows to use. I agree not a good idea.

I'm loving your reactions to it, because it was so cool to see in real life, the last two times I saw Equitana. I like the duck vs sheep analogy cuz I'm sure that's the reason for this silly exhibit.

By the by, I miss a good Costco Rib Eye from the grill SO MUCH. Beef isn't a thing here.

But today, for the very first time since 2007, my husband found Diet Dr Pepper for me. I had it on my calendar for two weeks and when I woke up today I said, "It's Dr Pepper day!" Sure enough, he brought me two little cans (the cans here are smaller than the cans in the US). I stuck them in the fridge immdediately.

Then he said they cost 89cents per tiny can. That is way too much for such an indulgence. I told him, as much as I may enjoy them, I won't expect them again. Like my beloved A&W Root Beer, I must simply learn to live without. I can get Root Beer over Amazon. For 1.50 per can. I promised J tonight that I can be patient and each visit to the US is that much better for me.

That was basically a reined cow horse routine: "boxing" (keeping the "cow" at one end of the arena), "down the fence" (chasing the "cow" done the long side, then turning it back, once each direction), and "circling" (turning no the "cow" around in each direction). If one doesn't have cows, one can use any number of mechanical devices (we'll have a remote controlled "cow" on a pulley system for our versatility clinic in May), but Kate and I have done one mini-clinic where we "worked" a human--it is mostly about teaching thenhorsemtom*watch* and follow then"target" and position itself properly. The Equitana demo was probably for demo only...

I think you can make homemade root beer. Dr Pepper might be more challenging, unless you buy the flavoured packets for soda stream.
