Finally window coverings

I've waited almost 3 years to be able to get dressed without hiding in the corner of my room, so that the neighbors don't have to watch.

I finally got window coverings - what they call "plissee" in Germany. I've waited long enough. It's those things that go either up or down. I want them low so that we still get light but people can't see in.

I wanted to be able to make the room very dark in case we are sick. Not that I get sick often, but I had my first migraine in August and I'll never forget how much I needed darkness that day. (Thankfully I have not had another migraine since, just some auras.)

I thought I knew what colors I wanted when I visited the shop, but when the owner/installer came out, he advised us on what would look best. OK he wanted us to go with vibrant orange but I just am not into the orange scene that everyone seems to love.

As you can see we haven't invested in art or decorations yet. I dream of having a beautiful print of my home city and next to it a print of my man's. And the other day we laughed and said we could do a composite image: Downtown Seattle with, instead of the monorail, Wuppertal's Schwebebahn photoshopped in. *lol*

We picked chocolate brown in the bedroom to match the wall, and a lighter brownish grey for the kitchen to match the floor.

I still have no color scheme for the kitchen, it's just neutral. So boring, but oh well.

He installed them right before Christmas and I was thrilled to see how lovely they look. I had no idea they'd be this nice, I mean, I thought they'd be nice but not wonderful! They should be at this cost. One of these windows cost as much as the entire living room (4). Yikes.

So happy! One thing at a time, since I've been employed, we are getting the things we've wanted for this house. Next: I need a dryer!

Nice, :) We had to invest in some new curtains last month. Moved to a house with no window coverings.
Dark is not a problem, the weather is lending its self to that. New Years day is the only day, so far, that does not have rain predicted.

What dream of for windows though is rolladen's! I fell in love with those when we were over there...They were great for the ones who worked mids....

p.s I did answer your questions on my blog...:)

They look great! I think I might have liked the orange ones.

We just got new flooring, so I know well how wonderful it is to wait for something for a long time. We're finally replacing our disgusting 12 year-old carpet in the bedrooms. Only slight downside: WE have to do it.

They are gorgeous! And if I had a dime for every time I was on strassbahn and passed naked people in windows I'd be able to buy you a dryer!!

Beautiful! I love the 'chocolate brown'... but what I really like is that they go bottom up.
Our house had wood slat venetian blinds installed on almost all of the windows. I just bought material to make a valence for the bedroom windows - and need to get that done before I move on to other projects.

I love them. I like the way they go from the bottom up. I prefer the brown over orange any day.

Oooh! Those are soooo nice! I love that you can keep them low to have privacy and close them entirely block out the sun.
Are your kitties trying to paw at them at all, trying to see out?

I like the color of the brown ones. I've never considered having brown on my own windows because I thought it would give a cave-like feel, but it doesn't at all. It feels sort of cozy and continues the color of the dark brown wall to that wall, so the window wall doesn't seem like a bright white blank page. I like it!
I also like the fabric texture of the blinds, too. Cool!

I do like orange and have teal/green and dark orange in my master bath. Sounds weird, but looks pretty good. lol!
But I may have to rethink my stance on dark brown now. :)

I had no idea you were without a dryer. I've been without a washer for over a month now since ours broke, and it's a hassle to drive into ABQ to use the laundromat to wash clothes. But at least we can bring all the wet clothes home and dry them. How are you drying your clothes in the winter?

Happy New Year to you, your Man, kitties and Baasha!

I love how the windows open in Germany, I wish we could have them here in the states. I cannot tell the readers how they open but you know what I mean.

Those are so clever! Never seen anything like that before. I like that bedroom accent wall a lot.
