Strange week

It's been an odd week starting with a series of thunderstorms that messed up all our sleeping patterns days in a row.

I've never seen my horse so scared before - he would not let me leave him, and I wasn't inclined to. The lightning struck every minute or less, lighting everything up like high noon with an eerie purpleness. The thunder rolled almost constantly.

It's been in the 90s with 68% humidity. The storm started way before the rains. 1:30 AM.

I found my horse under the walnut tree. I really like how he doesn't trust man-made structures in severe weather. He shouldn't. But with me there he stood in the stall. We stood together til 4 am.

The next night, same thing, big thunderstorm, but Baasha was much calmer so I didn't have to stay with him.

Then the power went out, and I haven't had Internet much of the week. Our wireless router bit the dust. I could have used my man's computer but none of my photos are on it and I just cannot blog without photos, I talk too much for that.

Our hay finally got cut and baled. I lost the bet, it was less bales than I expected so I had to buy my man a coke.

I moved fence afterwards so my horse is back on the big pasture. He is sure loving that.

We spent hours yesterday mowing under the fenceline to tidy it up and keep it off the electric wires. Thank you Funder for the sports drink that saved me!

It's a scary time here, people are dying of e.coli from vegetables. We are happy to harvest our own lettuce but sure missed cucumbers and tomatoes.

As of today we can eat anything but spouts (bean, lentil, etc.) I bought my first tomatoes and was a little worried so I really washed them well before putting them into Chicken Tortilla Casserole (my mom's best recipe!).

The kid I tutor caught us a couple of our trout. He loves fishing so much, and I love the taste --so fresh it's unbelievable. Both fish he caught were 54 cm long, I thought it was cute that he measured them. His dad showed up and showed my man and I what a fish charmer can do. I had already put the catch-net up at the house but he didn't seem bothered. As soon as his son caught a fish and tired it a bit on the line, he knelt down, reached into the water and lifted it out. It didn't struggle or even flinch. I had just needed three attempts with a net to get the other fish out - it kept jumping out. My man and I looked at each other in awe.

We ate one half of one for dinner and froze the other.

My husband says he's gonna toss this laptop into the garbage so I'd better type quickly. We don't know if it's Firefox 4 or solar flares that are messing with it. Right now I'm using IE (!!!) in hopes the poor thing can manage.
