We heard wolves on our first night here but last night there were some owls having screech wars keeping us up. At least one of them is an owl, not sure what that other noises are.
Maybe you can tell me:
Today I had to take my dad to the ER first thing cuz he was having abdominal pain. It turns out he has an intenstinal blockage, and he's been admitted. When he said his pain was 10/10 I wish I'd taken him in the night, cuz he spent the night suffering. When I visited the hospital (visitors are allowed every day out here!) there was a big NAME ALERT sign on the door. Apparently there is another patient with the same exact name as my dad there.
To be honest it's been a very stressful day because I don't have a return ticket and I desperately want to fly home with my husband. And the price is 5X what we paid to get here. And Lufthansa was utterly helpless on the phone as far as where to get another certified covid test that Germany will accept. That's one bit of information the German airline should know, don't ya think? Also, we're both worried about getting my dad home before we leave so we can observe him. Leaving him in the hospital and flying home is not the right thing to do.
We did find that SeaTac seems to give out covid tests, for 150-350$ each. Walgreens does it for free, but even Hawaii won't accept the Walgreen test (Antigen Binex).
Today was the day I wanted to get out on the water here locally, and maybe get some seafood, but no chance for that.
One funny thing though, when I told my mom about dad's illness, she said, "Oh, your brother had that a while back. It's cuz he bought an entire crate of Marie Callendar's frozen meals. He ended up in the hospital after eating them every day!"
I cracked up laughing because this entire week every time we go to the store, my dad buys another stack of Marie Callendar's frozen meals. And as we sorted his garbage, I counted 100 Marie Callendar's black plastic containers in his trash. There were more but I stopped counting at 100. Indeed every day he's eaten at least one of those things. (And until now I'd been glad of it, using a microwave is much safer than a stovetop for someone with dementia.)
I don't know if it's genetic but I won't risk eating them! My mom was cracking up too.

We finally ate Teriyaki again after years of missing it, and it was great. 3 bucks more per serving than our last visit. In the parking lot there was a pickup truck loaded completely with Salal. I'd told J about the collectors who glean the woods of this gorgeous local groundcover, I guess it's still goin on.
Another pic of the amazing Olympic peninsula. This is why people don't usually leave Washington State: )

I am so sorry that your dad is not well. I hope you figure out the testing. Dealing with family is hard enough without the pandemic on top of it.
Teriyaki! My first stop upon arrival! Hardly any in IA :-( So glad your Dad made it home & you made it home!
