We just got our vet bill for Mag's ice injury and J thought it was quite high. I thought it was ridiculously low, as are most vet bills here. Aside from the actual procedure and travel fee, the emergency fee was 50Euros. (It was Sunday at 4pm.)
What do you pay for an after-hour emergency fee?

Less than (the equivalent of) $60? I can't even get my horse vaccinated for that--on a Tuesday!
Bargain. Take your vet some pastries.
Don’t know about euros, but my old mare’s colic episode over New Years weekend was $95 for the after hours part. It would have been another $100 if they had come to the farm. This is not including any of the treatment...
Evensong, so the 95$ was for the after-hours phone call consultation? And 195$ if the vet had come out? Not including the miles?
We paid 50 for the emerg.fee, 50 for the drive (14km), 34 for the consultation and 100 for the treatment and meds.
No, my clinic will phone consult for free. We hauled Misty in to the clinic, and I just checked, and the after-hours emergency visit was actually $125. The “colic exam” (with rectal palpating) was $95. Treatment—sedation, banamine, mineral oil and electrolyte tubing—all came to $190-ish. Total for the visit was just over $400. (Second visit two days later, during regular hours, several exams, several tubings, and overnight stay added another $400!) She’s an expensive old dame! But I thought for sure we were going to lose her, so it was worth it.
Pilchuck was going to charge $175. for the "emergency" fee...
