Pollen year

I'm not allergic, but this year is what they call a "mast year" for pollen. Every morning when I go clean up after my animals, I need a handkerchief the size of a bath towel afterwards. And if I have to breathe through my mouth, I feel kind of sick afterwards.

There is a layer of yellow powder on everything, including my kitchen table if I crack a window. But people with allergies are having a terrible May, I shouldn't complain.

Today there were "fairies" dancing everywhere, and I tried to get it on video.

Turn the sound off, chickens are annoying.

Then again, if you want to hear our bad neighbors' chickens, I made this yesterday because I couldn't believe how loud they are when they are still locked up in their house. The neighbors keep them in to let us sleep in, because outdoors they are even louder.

It hasn't rained, so Mag has no mud to roll in. Poor Mag.

It's almost freezing at night still and I have to blanket him because there's nothing left of his Winter coat. During the day it's almost too hot for me though.

I love this feature, his jaw is so wide you can put your fist in it.

If it were not Sunday, I would be allowed to mow my grass. A day of enforced sloth.

My baby lilac.

Azaleas a month before rhododendrons. The field across the street is ready to harvest.

Omygosh just after I typed that I looked out my window and they are mowing it right now! Those people are good - they get three cuttings every year. (There is an exception to the "Silent Sunday" law - farmers are allowed to mow/harvest.)

I don't know what this plant is but I love it.

Wow, those chickens are loud.
I think your plant is what we call Solomon’s Seal.

Terry, Thank you for that! A pretty name for it. I looked it up in Wiki and it says the roots resemble Hebrew characters. I'd love to see that but I'm not going to hurt my plant. Our wedding rings have Hebrew on them, strangely, in 10 years of marriage no one has ever noticed or asked me about it.

Camryn, they have 13 hens and 5 roosters. I feel like my life has converted into non-stop interrogation in a war camp and they are using chicken noise to get the answers they need from me. If I shut all the windows and turn up the TV, I can block them out, but that's not the peace and quiet we enjoyed here for 7 years.

So much greenery! Heaven. Those chickens are absurd. It’s nice that they keep them in so you can sleep.

Egad, why so many roosters? We have two, which is two more than my preference, but they are Monica's pets...and truthfully, the roosters make noise less often than my smallest dog, so I have no room to complain.

You've inspired me to wander around my yard with the camera. Post coming soon!
