Running with Mag

Since Mag has so much fun trotting when I run, I finally got a video of it. My photographer friend visited with her husband today but did not have her camera, it was not a photo shoot day. I asked her a favor, "Take a video of me running with Mag with my little camera?" and she did.

Immediately after she said, "Do it 5 more times, that was great!" I'm no runner so I didn't. She said next time she'll do it with her camera. I thought she might say that. If we do, I will run up that hill 5 times in a row! And I won't wear shorts cuz no one needs to see my legs that sharp.

It worked exactly as planned except I didn't realize how surprised Mag would be about having an audience, so his attention was torn between me and them. I was delighted with the video because it's something I do often with Mag, it's our thing.

Afterwards we took the horse and donkey for a walk and Mag could not settle down, he was prancing and snorting - he wanted me to run again. His tail was up over his back most of our walk! My friend kept saying, "What a horse, MORE Arabian does not exist!" (Hard to translate that.) She was at Marbach, Germany's oldest Arabian state stud, last month, photographing their celebration of 200 years of breeding Arabians, but she said their Arabians are very plain. She will go to Spain this week to visit another Arabian farm, one with some of Mag's relatives. Her photos keep getting better and better. She photographs horses that cost 6 figures, but still makes a big deal about Mag. : )

It must be incredibly frustrating for a photographer to have my point&shot to work with. But I'm thrilled with what we got today.

Here are some stills from the video.

"Oh, people!"

Usually he stays behind me but today he was just too excited.

I like this photo because he's pivoting around completely committed to joining me again.

At the top of the hill I had a little reward waiting for him. The stripe on his side is from lavender oil, which I stopped using today because the area is not only hot, it's swollen, the entire oily stripe! The sky was a gorgeous blue today but apparently my camera did not pick that up in the video.

Update: I sent her some of the photos (and a couple of her and her husband and Bellis) and she wrote me back, "Your horse is a dream horse!": ) I think so too, I'm very thankful to have him.

What a relationship you two have! The expressions of happiness and fun on both of you are so vibrant.

Liz, my ultimate goal is endurance, still, of course, but to be more precise, to take Mag to his first trot-out. If I ever get there, I will be sure to have someone with a camera nearby! You're right, the relationship has deepened this year. I'm so jealous of people who have mature "just get on and ride" horses, but I think he's gonna be great someday.

He's so fancy. And LOOK AT YOU RUNNING! That's awesome. I remember when you and Madeline did the R&T at Cascade Challenge seems so long ago.

So, back to plain warm compresses. And...antibiotics? Or at least an anti-inflam?

Can you cut holes in a pad (an old one or a cheap one) to keep it off of the sore spots so you can ride?

I love his happy tail!

How lovely! Sounds like the lavender oil is irritating him.

Love the photos. Y'all look so cute together playing.

Many essential oils will burn skin, so before you apply to human or animal, google it so see how much carrier oil it needs to be mixed with. But you probably already know that.

Mag is really looking good, and he looks very happy!

That's so funny, he really seems to enjoy it. He even reached over at you. So cute.

He is so, so pretty. And playful!!!!! He is playing with you like a gigantic graceful beautiful dog would. Arabians, oh I love you.

And by the way you have great legs, so you stop that right now.

That's so awesome. Particularly love that first shot! Hope he heals well now that you're backtracking off the oils! I'll try to remember that's should anyone recommend that.

Aarene, he got two antibiotic shots yesterday, we'll see. Ride & Tie, what a blast, if you're a runner. Ahem. Do you remember that we cheated by riding Baasha double across a river? I can say this now, it's been so long: )

Crystal, my friend S wrote me today, "Why aren't you riding him every day!?" *sigh* Well, I'm having fun with him, but I'm still more comfortable riding him with another horse. Then we have FUN, and eventually I'll learn to have fun alone. I have a brand-new prospective riding partner that I will meet this Sunday. So excited.

Dom, a BC tail, no?: ) Like Aurora's Desire?

KB, everything I read said lavender oil would cure anything. Ugh.

Teresa, I'm so glad it turned out. OF course it would, he always does that. Now to do it again!!

kbryan, I did research before using it, and mixed it with coconut oil, but apparently coconut oil alone can cause inflammation! I'm using the rest of the mixture on myself. I smell like a hippy.

Redhorse, that's my favorite part too.

Sirje, I saw a prancing greyhound yesterday that could be called graceful. Did you know someone called me "breedist" - saying I'd never ever have a horse that wasn't Arabian. *lol* You are the first person in my adult life who has said anything positive about my legs. Really. I don't hate my legs, but you know how we see ourselves. My husband thinks my knees are cute because the fat pockets make little smiley faces. I have smiley-fat-pocked-knees. I try to stick to long shorts: ) But, posting these photos made me realize that I'm happier with my body than I have been in years, that I can even post such photos online. Thank you: )

Camryn, me too.....and guess what...a Haflinger will come to my house Sunday at noon, with a rider I've never met. To perhaps become a riding friend! I'm DYING in anticipation! Wait til you hear how I arranged it....I'm such a strange American.

And we are equally excited for you to meet your new riding companion.
