Mag helps with cache maintenance

Finally J had the opportunity to take a little walk with Mag and me. Until now he'd either been busy or it was snowing or hailing out. I gave him the camera and asked him to get some photos but after suffering the kick from a horse, the camera lens doesn't open reliably, among other problems. I can't believe it works at all.

Mag always flags his tail at the beginning of our walk and I'd hoped to get a good photo but well, we got the tail at least.

Now that he's shedding lots of old scars are appearing. He must have played rough as a baby. It's really fun to see him become less of a yak.

He reaches out and touches my hand for assurance.

He is learning to pull over and wait for cars to pass, and thankfully even big vehicles don't bother him.

This is the second geocache location today and my husband had to take the cache with us because it was soaked. It's Mag's first time to this little hut, it wasn't as exciting for him as it was difficult to stand there and wait. Well, when J disappeared into the holly, Mag was concerned.

Forgive us for our poor broken camera. This is me putting Mag's feet back where they were, he kept creeping toward me. He's allowed to stand where he can touch me with his nose, but his feet still have to be out of my space. It's just so difficult for him.

Touching me for comfort again. It's so hard to just stand here!

Good boy Mag, eat the hut!

The sheep were right at the street on the way back and he was pretty excited about seeing them up close. But he wasn't overly reactive, just staring and snorting.

We were walking very slowly the entire time, which is not what I normally do, but Mag was able to stay behind us for the most part. Not consistently but OK. Since we walked so slowly, Mag kept picking up sticks and eating them, or snatching oak leaves to eat. J mentioned that Mag was way calmer than I had described, but I think it was our leisurely pace and the fact we were chatting the entire time, or perhaps he really is starting to settle down. One of these days I'll even leave the gloves at home.

All, honestly it's been snowing day after day, or hailing or raining or gusting and I lost motivation to be outside. *shame*

Sounds like Mag's confidence in your leadership is growing and as that continues to expand and more trust builds, you're likely to see less of the insecurity -- either that or he just likes staying "connected" to you. The horses where I ride are also starting to let loose of their winter coats and hair is everywhere -- ugh!

Aww that sucks about the camera! I was so amazed it survived and was hoping it would be okay. Actually to tell the truth my camera worked after the dunking in the pond and then died... delayed death from cameras way be a common thing... hmm. I hope you don't have to wait as long as I have for a new one or to get yours fixed!
