There, I fixed her

I had some fun with some extra packing material that came in the mail this week. That was a lot of bubble wrap!

Today, Sunday, I woke up to horrible snow, and helped my husband clear his way out of the driveway, and get if off his car.

I noticed many people walking by our home today, a brisk sunny snow day. I thought right, I have to get the horse out there with these people.

Then  a coach went by our house. Mara started trembling all over. Teams pulling carriages go by our house every Sunday, all year long. Somehow she's still terrified.

I took her out intent on following the four-in-hand. Then I took Mara onto the Fallow deer farm trail.

She really wanted to pass me or blast around, but I kept twirling the end of my rope behind me to remind her to stay back.

Down at the creek she was fine and crossed the stream over and over for me. I let her stop and paw the water which she seems to enjoy.

Then I sat on a bench and asked for her to stay a meter away from me as I just sat there. It was hard for her, I admit, she kept sneaking forward.

A mountain biker blasted by full speed, no problem, and some dog walkers had to catch their dogs when I stood between them and my horse, not letting them circle her. One lady seemed bothered by this, and explained to me that her dog is old and deaf so cannot be expected to come to her or something. Really isn't that the perfect reason to keep a dog on a leash then? Geez.

I finally tied Mara to a tree and went exploring, leaving her there. She was only upset for a couple minutes and then she settled down, even as I investigated a swamp area full of blackberry brambles and stinging nettles lying down flat from the snow (but easily as tall as I am when they were standing).

She was so good about being left tied to that tree, I praised her and walked her home.

If she can manage to not hurt herself, Mell is coming to trailride her in the morning.

Wow! That is a lot of bubblewrap! What a good girl to put up with it. Sounds like your trail walk went pretty well as well. Hope Mell's ride will go nicely, too.

Did the bubbles pop when she moved? It's so weird how she'll tolerate being wrapped in bubble wrap, but other things really bother her. All horses have their quirks, though. I was watching a show on EquestFest on RFD-TV and they were showing how they had to maneuver a Clydesdale team from a wagon in a small arena with obstacles. The driver said he had two new horses on the team, and I could pick them out immediately. They were the ones gawking at everything and getting upset with each direction change. But then the two most experienced horses at the front began rearing in protest. You could really see the frustration on the driver's face, because there was this ripple of misbehavior going right on up the line. I started thinking about the struggles I have hand-walking a green horse past people and animals, and then started thinking about trying to control 8 huge draft horses all at the same time. I don't think I'll be putting that one on my bucket list.

BAH HAHAHAHAHA!

I love the bubblewrap.

Tell her that if she doesn't stay sound, she has to wear bubble wrap instead of a blanket.

oh, the humiliation!
