This is the weird hoof I discovered today. Not coincidentally, it is the same hoof that got the puncture wound through the sole near the apex of the frog, and was wrapped sterile for 6 days.
A new trimmer is coming over tonight, perfect timing. I think the coarse sand of the arena is responsible, and interestingly I felt that Mara was moving exceptionally well yesterday.
Mara the weathervane. I like to lunge her a couple minutes on our hills. Again today she was moving freely, it was beautiful to watch the impulsion.
Every Winter we despair it will be green again, and this year was no different. But the miracle always occurs, from hoof-churned mud comes grass again!
Mara is cute, but really hard to get a good photo of while grazing. I have to throw away most of them. She has too-short legs, and she stands odd when she grazes/sleeps, with her forelegs too far under her (not shown here). I have no idea why she does this (anyone?). Baasha always looked great while grazing.
I couldn't resist getting Mara some jewelery. The producer of these beads does not like it when I call it "horsey jewelery" but that's what it is. Yes, there are bells that are supposed to 1. soothe spooky horses (rotfl) and 2. help tempo-less people learn rhythm (ok that could happen I suppose). However, I do not like having a walking orange Christmas present jingling down the trail/street. I made it 5 steps before stuffing them into the saddle bags. I'll disable the bells somehow (they're really well made) and then she can wear them.
The bead set I ordered was specifically designed for dressage riders, they are more conservative than some of the bright ones. (Although a couple of bloggers would love the orange set, I know it.) I asked for a white bead added every 12th bead to match her white stuff. I have another set in mind that would look way better on a chestnut, but shipping *and* customs added up to more than I expected.
With no tack they look way better. This set would look best on Baasha.
Get it offfa me. This is not funny!
Ready for a parade.
I'll apologize with a cookie.

It looks like she might be trying to shed some false sole, which isn't uncommon after a puncture wound, or during a wet spring.
I love that longeing picture of Mara! Gorgeous trot!
I was feeling the same way about the grass and then one morning I woke up and everything was green! Isn't it crazy how that seems to happen overnight??
Chrome does the splits when he's grazing usually, with one foreleg back and one forward. I think maybe his neck is too short? Hehe. I love that picture of Baasha. He was such a beautiful horse. I miss him.
Mara's beads are gorgeous!! I think you're right that those would look awesome on Chrome. Sadly since he's roached we can't do the mane ones. I like bells too especially since someone told me they use them for riding during hunting season so they don't accidentally get shot. Brilliant!! Also Bellis is adorable in the beads!!!
Cool, the one you linked would look great on a chestnut! I hope you can save up and get it someday. I can't afford any right now, but I'm hoping I can save up for some too. :)
The hoof looks like it's doing normal shedding of sole - I wouldn't worry about it as she's sound.
oooooooh I have jewelry too. My necklace and it has bells on it. Human made it for me. I don't wear it often usually only when I have human foals on board. Little filly humans like dressing me up in jewelry.
Mara you are stunning m'dear.

Jewellery with bells hung on horses made me think of Tolkien's Elves. Reading the LOTR I did think that tinkling little bells might get a bit annoying after a while, but maybe Elves like that kind of thing?
Mara's coppery color looks stunning against that electric green grass.

The green pasture looks lovely, makes me want to eat some grass too! Her horsey jewelry looks very nice on her, I really like it along with white halter, etc. I like Bellis in the bell necklace. They both look great!
I see nothing alarming about the hoof picture, like others said it just looks like sole shedding to me. I love Bellis rocking the beads! Maybe I should put Sparky in some horse jewelry . . .
