I had to laugh when I read my "Fly Season Special 2013" catalog yesterday. I always find something amusing about German horse product sales, as you know.
This time it's UltraShield, which I have never used, have no experience with, but apparently I can get it (for 35Euros for slightly less than one liter) for use....get this.... in my barn or aisleway.
It is not to be used on horses, because it might kill the flies too dead, I guess.
*lol* If you've been reading my blog a while, you know my level of respect for German laws, or any law I find inconvenient.
Here's the link.
And here's the Google translation:
Ultra Shield Black is the best selling insecticides in the United States and is registered in Germany as a stable spray. Only for use in stables and other premises. Not suitable for direct application on human or animal skin. Black UltraShied pleasant smell of aloe, lanolin and lemon oil. In a water-based formulation.

oops, sorrry! i had the k and the b part right though: )
UltraShield *is* pretty nasty stuff. Years ago, I boarded at a barn where we all used the stuff, cuz it WORKS.
But when one of the stall cleaners got pregnant, we all decided to quit using it until the baby was born. Cuz it works cuz it's pretty toxic.
But now that I'm on my own, it's my and my UltraShield, baby!

Here's the deal. I have long intended to make a donation in Baasha's name, but hesitated because I didn't want to bother you about it, and I know you needed time to heal abit. Please let me get this and send it to you. I am sure Baasha would approve. What is the best way for me to get it to you? If I buy from Amazon, I'll just put in your address to ship it to if you think that will work. If not, I'll get it here and then send from the post office I reckon. Thanks!

And how many tubes would you like? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WGU92Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1ECENKGHMHX5D

Ultrasheild is what I use. It has Permethrin and Pyrethrins in it. The Pyrethrins are the all natural ones derived from Chrysanthemums and it biodegrades quickly. Permethrins are the synthetic version and is not very good for you. Both are absorbed in the skin so you're not supposed to get it on you, but I get spray back on me all the time. Probably not a good thing, but you can't avoid everything I guess. I just try to wash off when I get it on me. It works really well for me and the reason I use it mainly is for the ticks because they are bad here! I wish I could find an all natural one made with just the pyrethrins. :)
UltraShield is excellent. I have used it for many summers on my horses in NJ, SC and now in KY. My farrier smiles when he sees me using it. He says his other clients try using the "cheap" stuff which doesn't work as well! I would say buy, it spray it, and what the Gov't doesn't know won't hurt you. I spray my horses lightly with it on legs, under bellies, tails and under neck/chin about every other day. Once a week I spray it on a mitt and wipe it well around their ears and face. Love your blog - I have a lot of family in GE and Austria and always enjoy riding there!
