We stocked up on Coke Zero and A&W rootbeer (photo below) and headed out to visit Mikael. Although I'd been there before, I wanted my man to experience those wonderful horses.
I asked Mikael to show me how to clip faces professionally, and she demonstrated on Storm. Storm was not so sure about me when he first met me.
My man watched, playing with Suede. Suede is really shy but curious and my man learned where he liked to be scratched, and how to earn his trust to do so.
Mrs Mom made me a gorgeous blue show halter for Baasha, and I couldn't wait til I got home to Germany to see it on an Arabian, so I asked if Rhet could model it. He looked great in it.
I enjoyed getting to know more of her horses, they were mostly outside, the temperature that day was 97F.
I thought it was great how Storm lets her spray him all over, including his face! She said I could teach Baasha to handle that, but after all these years, and his hatred of spraying, I think I'll just stick with hot towelling his face. He has a water phobia about his ears and I can live with it: )
I loved hanging out with the Solidaire fillies. They would be my picks. They were just so affectionate, and loving toward Mikael, watching everything she did.
I'd met Mikael just 18 months before, before her illness, and although she's doing badly lately, I was surprised to see how great she looked. She looked much stronger this time. I hope she gets better so she can really ride again.
The photos in this blog are a little backwards, I'm learning a new FTP server. At the end was actually first. We went caching at the Cedar River in downtown Renton (after picking up my new riding helmet at Renton Western Wear - my first time there, since I never rode Western!). It was so bloody hot out I walked right out into the river, joining some Spanish-speaking kids, who were delighted that I'd joined them. I sure to miss Americans' ability to make conversation readily with strangers.
There's also a photo I found in the bathroom of Uptown Espresso, my favorite espresso in Seattle, which made me smile, as well as my step dad Joel, trimming his ancient begonia that belonged to his mother. I love that plant but cannot succeed in getting a cutting to survive the airplane ride.
So that was a day in our vacation, and I am missing my home a lot now!

That is great that you got to visit with Mikael again! I have met her a few times at horse shows and she is the nicest person, so sweet and she has beautiful horses! I hope she is feeling better soon!
Love your new blue rope halter! Mrs. Mom did an awesome job with it!
Thank you for your comment on Rockaway Beach. I am not familar with that beach but I think my in-laws have been going there for years so I am hoping they know about it! I will ask them just to be sure and I can't wait to visit them to see the beautiful beach!
Lucky you to see MiKael and her horses in person. I follow her blog; it has renewed my faith in the Arabian. I got pretty sour on the whole Arabian scene when I worked for David B*ggs!
LOL, I have that same sign in my barn!
I wonder if you could start a "conversation club" in Germany, where people could get together with the promise that they will actually TALK TO STRANGERS???
If you make a million euros on that idea, remember that I gave it to you.
pg, maybe we should hook up next time. you're a "local": )
spotz, isn't that a great sign!!
aarene, that would be breaking the prime directive. because of their history germans are suspicious of outward friendliness. tonight at the grocery store, a little girl in riding clothes was in line behind me. another little girl from the other checkout came over, said, "are you going horse riding?" and the first girl said, "yes" and the second girl said, "i like your outfit." and the first girl said "thanks." (this was after she rammed me her cart into my ankles, quite common here.) i thought, "hm, kids in germany. they haven't gotten to the age yet where it's odd to be friendly to strangers." *shakes head* there are exeptions but i daresay they are foreigners or really well-travelled germans.
aarene, oh, remember how shocked i was at the BK parking lot when that older couple said hi to us..and you didn't know them?: )
That halter is pretty! I want to learn to make an Arabian halter. I know Chrome is only half, but I think he'd look cute in one. :D
Mikael's Arabs are gorgeous! So cool that you got to visit her again. :)
