Quarab

A month ago I found this horse for sale for only 2500E. A Quarab whose Arab father is a successful endurance horse. His owner says this horse is used to going 3-6 hours on trails and shows his father's quality of stamina.

My Princess Buttercup was a Quarab, and I loved her. Her Arabian half was tamed by the QH side, and when I say she was perfect, well, people who know her will back me up.

I thought another Quarab would be awesome, especially if it's built like an Arab with a QH's "husband friendly" temperament. This guy is 8 years old, and only a half hour from my house. I was getting excited. Doesn't he look like a good citizen? "Look, I'm holding up my hoof with no lead rope for the farrier!" And look at his sturdiness - this is exactly what I want. He's 158cm, about a full hand higher than I want (I think that's 15.3)

Then I got an email from his owner. He broke his splint bone last week (RF). AGH! What is wrong here, why is this happening to me - Amja has a heart condition, this one has a bum leg. It's so hard not to get totally discouraged. At least I'm riding on Sundays and have Baasha to fuss over (still!). I know a splint injury is not always career ending, but would you take that risk? Xrays were done, but I'd want ultrasounds to see the ligament. See, I'm tempted still! So frustrating!

My horse broke his splint bone July 3. He is back doing 20 mile rides no problem. I did an xray to confirm it wasn't a complicated break, and another follow-up xray to check healing 4 weeks later, all he had to do was rest. My vet (and endurance rider himself) said it is very common, and his horses have them too.

So don't give up! He does look like a nice horse.

Did he "pop" a splint, or have a blow to it to injure it? If its popped up high, he should be fine after some rest and healing.

Its always something huh, with these 4 leggers getting hurt.

I think he is goregous! I love bays... now as to it, bummer, big, big bummer on a broken splint. I wonder, would they lower the price? maybe he is worth the risk, maybe have the US done to check...

I am so sorry that all keeps cropping up wrong...:/

He certainly is lovely!
The Thoroughbred that I had in college popped her splint bone. I don't think it is all that unusual... if that is what he did. I think that after a bit of rest the sliver of bone calcifies to the leg. As long as it doesn't interfere with the action of the knee there should be no problem.

PS.... the price ought to be lowered - that might be another plus!

Did he just pop a splint? I would do an x-ray but I most likely wouldn't be put off buying him especially because he seems like a good one.

I hope the others are right, he seems just perfect.

Splint bone breaks are seriously NBD. Hana had hers removed (it was broken and irritating the nearby tissue) and she is absolutely fine. If you weren't looking at the x-ray of her right rear leg, you would never ever know.

Go. See. About. This. Horse!

Aww poor guy! I know nothing about broken splint bones, but everyone's comments are encouraging. Maybe you can still check him out?
