From Baasha and Lytha's past

My dad has pics from our younger, crazier years. First of all, you gotta see Baasha at 4 years old. I can almost remember taking this photo, in 1989. That look in his eyes, I can just feel his sweetness. Looking at this photo, I'm astounded this same horse is still with me, just much safer, and much more my son. I didn't really know him at that point. Check out his legs, his wonderful conformation, and even at 4, his shark withers were scary. We rode around SeaTac airport, in ballfields and wherever we could find something off road. Deserted runway towns. Not a place for a young Arabian, but that's what we had.

This is 1991. I was 20, Baasha was 6. He's so good, at 6, he even went swimming in a deeper spot of this river with me.

Also, I was a skater. Here's proof.

My sister and I - I like that she's wearing her Mt Rainier highschool graduation shirt, I was 2 years before her. These photos show our town, South Park, where we spent our youth to early teen years. We lived across the street from the Community Center Park. This is not a safe place, and over the years it has only worsened.

I sure feel old, looking at family photos, but then I think, "Wow, Baasha is STILL alive!"

Fun pictures. I was a skater too. Went to skate parks, often time disappeared all day while skateboarding all over in neighboring cities. My husband often says, "You know what scares me? I'm going to grow old and die before Gabbrielle reaches her old age. Your horse is going to outlive me."

It is really wonderful to have a horse that has been with you that long. I bought my Gunner as a three-year-old and he is 32 today. He's been with me the whole time. It really is an amazing feeling--just as you say. Love the photos of you and Baasha.

How cool is that! Baasha was lovely as a young horse too.

I had to chuckle about "South Park"- any relation to the TV show?

The skate pics certainly bring back memories, I had one too and actually wore the heels off a pair of brand new Converse high tops "buttboarding" down the hill from Council Crest all the way into NW Portland in the middle of the night.

Gosh! What a red haired girl you were! Not just red...but RED! lol!
Gorgeous, too!
Baasha looked so different as 4 year old than he does now. It must have been interesting watching him change color before your eyes.
In his 4 yr old photo I noticed that his pasterns are very straight and he's slightly back at the knees.
But in his older photo, his pasterns look much better, even though they do flex rather deeply, which was one of your worries when you were inspecting a few potential horses to buy recently.
I do love how he looked when his mane and tail were so dark, while he was so light grey. Stunning!

Thanks for sharing your walk down memory lane with us :)

Wow! Baasha has always been gorgeous, hasn't he? :D I love seeing how he changed in color through the pictures. Was he four in the creek photo too or just the first one? Did he ever go dappled gray or did he just fade out over time? I bet Chrome is going to gray out a lot like him since he's three and still so dark. :) Thanks for sharing the photos. Baasha is sooooo beautiful.

Oh forgot to comment on the skateboarding. I tried to stand on one once.... didn't go well LOL!! To this day I still can't skate (on rollerblades, skateboards or ice skates).

What fun pictures! Basha sure has some long legs in the first photo, looks like my guy, tall withers and all. And the skater pictures, I'll just say "awesome." I think my same-era turquoise Converse high tops and concert shirts may still be in a box at my parents!

No WONDER you are so picky on conformation... Baasha was (is) perfect!
