Hay? Anyone?

Our hay guy who mows our field twice a year and provides us hay in return, has crapped out on us this Summer. It's OK cuz our pasture is in great shape and even our grazing strips are good. I feed a lot of beet pulp though.

Hay guy promised us he'd be here on Wednesday with 30 bales, cuz we're going to America Saturday.

Today is Thursday. No hay. No call. I'm pissed. I get home from work, my man calls Carsten again, nothing. My man calls our fish guy who has hay nearby, busy signal.

I throw my hay bale bag in my car and drive immediately to Herr Schneider, the partner of our fish guys. He was not there. His wife was sitting in the garden in flip flops talking on the phone. She kept saying "Holger" and I kept thinking "I wonder who Holger is" and then she handed me the phone, "This is your fish guy." OK, first name Holger, did not know that.

He said, "That hay there that you want is twice as expensive, 6 Euros per (small/tiny) bale." I said, "I do not have a choice, but I just want to try it. If my 28 year old horse can eat it, and our hay farmer craps out on us again, then I'll ask you to deliver 20 bales next week. I'll PayPal you."

The wife of Herr Schneider wobbled over in her fancy summer shoes and summer dress and helped pull a bale down. I was thrilled, it was green and soft and the individual pieces were short and chewable. Definitely worth money.

I put it in my bale bag from America. I am certain that she had never seen such a bag. A bag made for moving hay around, with wheels? How practical!  She mentioned how nice it is that my car will stay clean.

I promsised her a call if our hay guy does not delivery tomorrow.

It's good to have a backup! To see the two hay varieties side by side tonight, wow. 1st cut yellow straw, next to 2nd cut fluffy green, actually GREEN!?

I know many cannot find hay now, and we're having our first real trouble, but it's nothing compared to back home. I pray hay or an alternaive comes your way.
