On the way back from riding Tempelhof, I saw a tack shop and remembered your request that I do a blog post about tack/feed shops in Germany. (Pictures are below, I was lazy!)
This tack shop was one of the nicest I've been in here. I think they could do better than using chip-wood for display cases though.
I tried to get prices on items so you can see what things cost.
I noticed that they had a separate room full of second hand tack! That is awesome! I didn't see any good deals though, but honestly I have everything I need, already.
I wanted to point out that lambswool saddlepads are big here, and they are soooo nice! There are several companies producing these things and people buy them up.
Leinoel is flax seed oil, if you're wondering what's in the bottle for 27E.
The manure picker-uppers are different here.
The lead ropes mostly have panic snaps.
The halters are all crap, except this leather model I found for 79 Euros. (79 for a halter!! that's like 100$)
The grooming kit boxes are different than what we use in America - they are boxes with lids. I don't like them because I think it would get stinky and damp in there. Then again, Germans are meticulously clean, so maybe that explains it. Remember the time my husband vaccuumed out the inside of the vaccuum? (And the funny feedback loop he created?)
My husband was astounded that a bridle can cost more than a horse. (500E) Well, maybe an American horse.
The photo of the two people's legs, well, I had to capture that cuz they both looked so ridiculous in their socks pulled up over their riding breeches. That's a man, btw, bending over, in his high-whites. Good grief people, get a clue. Not that I looked snazzy after my ride, I had helmet hair (really bad this time) and a big fat swollen lip. My shoes had holes and my flannel had bits of hay and horse hair on it. I'm sure I didn't smell like roses either.
I never saw any saddles but perhaps I didn't see everything.
The Germans really know about treats - those are huge 25 kilo bags of carrots, you must use them quick before they spoil, I've learned.
And now for the photos:

I could spend hours in a tack shop. My poor hubby just doesn't understand that! Other than things being priced in Euros, your shop looks a lot like those I've been in here. Do you remember the Dover Saddlery catalogs? Now they are putting Dover Saddlery shops all over the place. We have one in town :))
Looks very similar to a tack shop in Franklin, Tennessee- Judy's Tack Shop. Since I ride western, I like to look, but rarely buy anything there.
Nice butt shots.
Dan
that could be a tack shop in England. Apart from only a few lead ropes have panic clips most here have trigger clips.
Carrots like that are a pain in winter as the flaming things freeze.
I didn't pay that much for my bridle that was made to measure.....
Did it not have a horse feed section? The amount of differing bags of horse feed here in the uk are staggering.
Much Bigger then the one I found down in Trier, on the walkplatz..
I honestly wish I still had the receipts for what I bought there. I bought a bridle, leather lead shank, and a running martingale...and the only thing I have ever really used is the bridle...lol... I still use that bridle, 17 yrs later( holy cow on just how long its been!)
I had also bought a halter, gave it away to a friend with a TB. I wonder if it ever got used? It was rather large! I loved my little tack box with a lid I bought there..this came from a shop in Bitburg.. I had to trash it a few years ago, it got broke... would love to get a few more like it..

That's a HUGE place! I haven't been in one that big since I was back east. It's a little surprising that, as "western" is getting so popular, that there's not any of that gear there.
Tack shop or Home Depot? It's a close call...
thanks for sharing. I always like to browse around in tack shops. Interesting that they have such large bags of carrots for sale there. I almost expected to see bags of stale bread since I know you said that the Germans like to feed it.
Loved it! I would die for a tack shop like that! I live in the middle of California and have nothing even close. I'd have to travel several hours to fid a tack shop with so many choices. All online shipping here ...

This looks like Costco Tack. I wish there WAS a Costco Tack. We don't even have a Dover here, although the locally-owned Bony Pony will order anything I want, and will tempt me with plenty of shiny stuff I don't need. Sigh.
What this tack store has that our local shop doesn't have is FLOOR SPACE, with, like, floor in it, and not heaps of stuff. It would be kind of nice to shop without having to tuck my elbows way in...but not at German prices! Egad. I'm sure there are people here who would pay that much for a bridle, but not me!
Carrots: how much does a big bag cost? We feed them to the dogs as well as the horses.
Awesome! I wish we had second hand sections of our tack shops here in North Dakota...then again I wish we had real tack shops here in North Dakota. If we do have them they are mostly western. The tack shop I always went to when I lived in Stockholm had a basement full of second hand stuff. I bought my first pair of breeches there. And I swear they are magic breeches...they still fit and I am no where close to the same weight I was when I was 18.
Cool! A lot different than here in the NW US. I started making my own rope halters, I hand stitch the pole and tie so it doesnt make a loop and I even figured out the fancy fiador knot at the tie! kinda fun! I cant imagine having to clean a stall with one of those!! my mares are messy! LOL
Lytha, this is the new thing that is growing by leaps and bounds here in the NW USA,

Mark Bolender is really nice in person too. His park is by Lake Mayfield.
The ACTHA stuff is taking off too, not a lot real close to me, up a Bolender horse Park is the closest. I really want to do some of these rides this year. :o)
Wow so much stuff in there. I really like those sheepskin pads wish they werent so expensive and I would have some. And the tall socks I like them, but cant see wearing them over breeches. Dont like the panic snap lead ropes, not sure why but just dont. And love used stuff, makes it so much cheaper
Aarene - omg! Costco Tack would rule.
I used to browse high-end tack catalogs just to laugh at what was more expensive than my horse. Champ only cost $1500, and I've seen Arabian show halters and western romel reins and even dressage bridles more expensive than that. Dixie was more than twice as much and the only tack she's worth less than is saddles :)
Why is "second hand" auf Englisch??
Tack shops like that are fairly common in Britain. The quality of stuff isn't always great, but there is good stuff if one looks for it. Carrots come in bags like that here, equivalent of about 5E or $7 for about 25lbs. Horses aren't so cheap here that one costs less than a good saddle. On reflection nothing is cheap here.
Lots of selection there. The helmets are a little odd...remind me of alien faces. hehe!
Do they have rope halters, or only web halters?
That green and yellow horse statue looks like it should be wearing a pair or two of those green and yellow gargyle socks. lol!
Thanks for the tour.
