Sun+heat, water+soap, grass+graze & palindrome

I really like my new weather widget (sidebar) but it's not entirely accurate. I'm looking at my thermometer in the shade and it says 29C which is 84F. Hm!

I do like the way it simulates my landscape and the position of the sun and perhaps when it rains, I'll actually see some rain on it too. If it ever rains again. *glares at sky*

I also like how planes and birds fly over occasionally, the grass waves, the chimney smokes - that is also realistic. I expect the fields to bloom with canola soon. But if these programmers were actually here, they'd see a very early season with fields full of yellow canola.

Today I mowed and mowed - it seems I can mow almost every day. I have been starting to feel heat exhaustion as I work - a nauseous feeling and weakness and then the need to drop into ice water. (And yesterday I had less mentionable symptoms as well.)

Baasha had his first horsefly today and I did my normal neighborhood-wide announcement "HORSEFLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

He got a bath and his tail area oiled because he's itchy and his tail looks ridiculous all rubbed to frizz. Then I asked my man to hold him while I got the camera.

Here is Baasha "counting" - no, he's just pawing air because he is soaking wet and wants to roll and not stand on the driveway.

I returned with the camera and my man said "Can you go get some carrots?"

I came back with carrots and my man was trying to keep the horse from eating my flowers.

Poor Baasha has an oily butt. I feel that oil might soothe the itchiness, as well as dosing him with equispot and flysect.

My man asked the horse to shake hands and so did I. Note the German citizen in the photograph wearing full pants in 84F weather. The perfectionist in me is annoyed I didn't put the hose away before taking photos.

Baasha feels a horsefly on him. Here's a question that you might help me with - are those ferns in my wall weeds or ...? I have always loved ferns but the mailman pointed them out and said "I see you have a problem with ferns." Is it?

The wind picks up what is left of his rubbed mane.

BTW, in Germany, black socks and shorts are normal. In fact, you can spot Americans by their white socks. It took me forever to just settle down and wear black socks with shorts but I still prefer grey, a compromise of cultures.

I'm trying to teach him to "hug."

Then I went out to the big field which is hay now but I thought Baasha deserved a treat after his torture session (bath).

Freaky photo - I assure you he's not dead, just enjoying.

Do you see how he smashed down a large section of grass?

Shaking it off. Please get your mane back on the right side. Left is wrong.

Finally. Now maybe I'll eat.

Is someone gonna come cut this please? Anyone? Bueller? I cannot even walk!

This is nothing, nevermind.

About the ferns - I don't know if they are weeds or not (perspective, maybe?), but most are toxic to horses.

anon, i know they are mildly toxic to horses - this variety (bracken). my horse has better things to sample now but in the PNW days he sure ate a lot of it!

mikey - HEY! you are the one who inspired me to find a weather widget today, after seeing your temp and local time.

and i had to cry out tonight to my man, "this is not arizona!" as he told me to spray the hose on the grounding rods to try to get our electric fence to work again - this is the first time it's failed us - wth!!!??

We had a ton of ferns at our house in Germany they grew like weeds. I never thought of them as weeds I have to say no. What gorgeous weather you are having...sounds like summer already! Do you have A/C? When we lived there we had 7 fans and my German teacher always asked me to turn them off....draft and all....I would sit there dipping!lol!
You look fabulous in your black socks....I'm a believer when in rome do as romans!
Sophie does the same thing after a bath!

I like your weather widget. I have weather info on my Google home page and I can see the weather where my family lives.
Anytime you have a plant that is growing where you don't want it to grow... it's a weed. So, if you like the ferns where they are, they are not weeds!

Well it stopped raining here (finally), so hopefully it's heading your way now.

Personally I like ferns and I think they look nice in your wall.

See the swing of the grandfather clock unwinding! I <3 you, lytha! :D

... even though it snowed on me today. SNOWED! Pelted down snow and rain off and on all day, in May!

Are you drinking electrolytes or just water? My heat stroke prone self got so much better after I started drinking electrolytes - but I didn't start that til I moved to Reno, so I'm not sure if it's the elytes or the low humidity. You should definitely try elyting. I would love to send you some stuff, if you'd email me your address - funder at gmail.

Baasha is beautiful. I am irrationally convinced that it'll be warm enough to bathe Dixie any day now and I can share pictures of my lovely white horse.

I must be part German, because I prefer black socks over white. They call less attention to themselves, so if you have "floods" while wearing long pants that aren't supposed to be capris, it's not as noticeable with the black socks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your family's loss. This is a difficult time, because one's emotions get so out of control. People feel shock, disbelief, anger, magical thinking, etc. We cry at the drop of a hat. It has been 40 days since I heard the news about my mom, and I'm just now finally starting to behave like my old self. However, nothing ever really gets back to the way it was. Everything changes when a loved one is lost.

Frau, I can honestly say I don't need an AC in this house even though I relied on mine heavily back home in Summer (I lived on the top floor). Our German house must be magical because it just stays cool all day no matter how hot it gets out there. Upstairs no, but that's where we hang laundry and it sure dries fast!

Dreaming, I sure like ferns. But if they start pushing out the flowers I'll have to trim them back.

Smazourek, in the newspaper today it said "Today: thunderstorm" and I said "Do these people LIVE HERE? Look outside! *lol*"

Dom, white with dark green flecks.

Funder I will gladly give my addy to anyone who would like to send me anything from America!!!! I have a terrible craving for countless things. The thing is, it's expensive, so I'm afraid to ask. However Nevada is on our "must visit" list (tahoe) so I would be happy to bring you stuff from Germany on that distant date. One more thing - I thought of Dixie's mane as I scrubbed Baasha's roots yesterday. I only did a tiny bit of it though cuz I don't want to irritate the skin and cause him to rub.

Merri, I believe your horses are healthier because I don't think it's ideal that lush green grass makes up the majority of a horse's diet. I'm extremely lucky that he is not sensitive to grass. Less healthy than yours, but it does my soul good to see him eating it!

Crystal, I walked my fenceline today and the grass came up to my boobs. Can't wait til it's cut!
