Finally a little rain.
I write on my calendar every time any precipitation falls. The entire state sighed together Monday as it finally rained. What I would call drizzle* - it was about 8 hours of it, and we'll take it! (Although a drenching Florida rain would have been better.)
*You know in the PNW we have 50 different words for rain? *lol*
I had to laugh at Baasha because he stood the entire day in the stall. And the next day it rained a little bit more, and he stayed in there that whole day too, for good measure. No way was he gonna sensitive Arabian self wet, even though it was refreshing. Do you see the bird in this photo? He's got his babies' meal in his beak. I have two birdhouses with babies on the old barn, and the parents (2 mothers, 2 fathers) work together all day long pulling caterpillars/inchworms out of the trees and feeding them.
I cannot believe how much baby birds can eat. If you watch, it averages out to about one worm going into the nests per minute, all day long. (Wiki photo. I am not nearly skilled enough to photograph these guys clearly.)
Our two nests are occupied by one pair of normal chickadees and one pair of blue tits.
Do you see the bird in this photo? I took these pics from inside my house (I didn't wanna get wet *grin*).
In my old life, we couldn't let the weather stop us from doing things outside, because we'd never do anything. But here, you know it's gonna stop and be glorious summer again any minute (like now), so why get wet? A fire sounded nice so I made one. Then I did 4 loads of laundry and made banana muffins.
I put a chair in my greenhouse so I could enjoy the rain (and greedy baby bird cries) from outside, and the cat quickly claimed it once I stood up. Oh well, you can have it then. The cat complained about the rain too, doing a frustrated meow to show me that getting raindrops on her back is not comfortable for her.
We planned on mowing (my husband with the weedwhacker, me with the mower) but the rain didn't allow it. Today I will try.
It's not all blossoms, chirps, and splashing creek here: The neighbors sprayed 2 tankertrucks full of liquid cattle waste all over the field in front of our house. (Wiki photo.)
I had to keep the windows shut for two days. Why does the smell of cattle manure remind me of burning plastic? This is not just an odor, it's a thick, overwhelming assault every time you walk outside. We had guests and they held their noses and hurried back to their vehicle. (Univeristy of Kentucky photo.)
16:23 Update:
OH NO!!
I found these three feathers under the plum tree and found Mercer eating an entire bird - one of the parents. Oh dear, the babies, good thing they have the spouse feeding them now. Bad Mercer! I keep telling her, "Your dinner tonight will be so small you'll have to squint your eyes to see it!" and "Your dinner will be so small you won't notice you've eaten it!" I love that cat and appreciate her God given talent but I wish she'd direct it at moles.

People used to do that to their lawns in the spring when I lived in Las Vegas. That smell is so sharp it takes your breath away, but whatever they mix it with sure does make the grass grow thick and green.
It's been raining here almost a week straight! Today I hope is the last day and a nice weekend is in order. A couple years ago we had a bird nest below our bedroom window with two babies I spent hours watching them and so quickly they were off on their own.It was amazing! Have a wonderful day!
We've been experiencing the same feeling about the oh-so-welcome rain! Hallelujah!
The bird pictures are so cute!
I had a premonition that the cat sitting in the chair listening to the birds wouldn't be a good thing for the birds.
GREAT photo of that bird, really nice!
We're drowning in the rain up here in the Northeast. Make it stop already!
ha ha ha we finally have SUNSHINE! Just in time for Mt Adams!

Glad you enjoyed your rain! I wish I could send some your way! Although the sun has finally decided to make an appearance the last 2 days, let's see how long this stretch will last. It hasn't made it past 2 days since September (that I can remember, anyways!)
I love this time of year, waking up to the birds. I could listen to them all day!
I am laughing at you and Baasha hiding from the rain. But I totally understand! I remember riding in 40 degree rain in Memphis - that's what winter was, icy cold rain for most of Nov-Dec-Jan. You could not ride for 3 months, or you could ride in the rain.
Now I'm like "It's drizzling and I'll melt!" Two days ago when it rained Dixie got mad and charged around the field then went in her run in. Gasp!
Poor birdparent! :(
FEED THE CAT MORE SO SHE WON'T BE STARVING & GO AFTER THE BIRDS
PERHAPS IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO FEED THE CAT MORE FOOD SO MAYBE SHE WON'T BE SO INTERESTED IN EATING BIRDS.
I wish we could rein in the hunters during spring when every bird needs all the help it can get. But is the way if cats...
