This is the best time of year around here. I was just waiting for a day with Simpsons opening credits clouds and I almost got them today so I went out with a camera.
I wanted to point out the piles of wood that are now being created for the Easter fires. Here is our next door neighbor's pile. Every Easter people make big yard fires to celebrate Spring.
I saw my first neighborhood horses out at pasture today so apparently the switch to pasture has begun.
I love that we don't have to worry about it - he's never off pasture so he never has to acclimate.
Here's a pic from April 2009 when Baasha had only been here a couple of days. He was so skinny and so tired of being chased. I've never seen him lay down so much as that first week. Now he lays down and naps every midday.
I am still looking forward to moving beyond shedding season. By then the hay will be high I think.

Oh wow! Spring is picture perfect beautiful there.
Here? Not so much. Spring is probably the worst right after winter.
Summer is gorgeous, especially up here in the mountains. All we need now is some moisture. We got hardly any snow and no rain in 7 months, unless you count that short sprinkle we got last week. I don't. :P
Baasha lives the dream life that all horses should be able to live.

Oh Lytha! Your life, your pastures, your land - sooooo beautiful I want to send my three boys to live with you and Baasha. I know they would be so much happier than they are here. Who wouldn't be. Baasha's pastures are just too lovely. I used to read and reread your shipping Baasha over story. One of my good friends in a FedEx pilot. He doesn't know that I am plotting to get him to fly my three over!!! lol!
I think you live the life I always imagined!!! Enjoy! You and your sweet horse are so lucky!
Spring looks gorgeous there- haven't seen it as much here in Berlin. We are off to the Netherlands next week to visit the bulbs and, by your pictures, it looks like we'll be seeing a wonderful high Spring.
Lisa, I sure hope he's as happy as the pictures seem to say. That he lays down every day tells me he feels safe at least.
Juliette, It is idyllic here, a dream come true for me. If only I'd known that I'd be giving up my passion - endurance riding - completely upon moving. I had the hope that I could do it here, and hooked up with people right away, but alas - it's a different sport here and I do not want it. *sigh*
Every March-->October I am aware of a monthly endurance ride that I am missing. Every Winter I miss not being out in the hills getting ready for the ride season. I have the hope at least that someday I'll be back and I'll do it again. Endurance isn't only for the young, thank God.
G in Berlin - it is amazing how much further along Koeln is than we are. They seem to have May already from the lilacs and rhodies.
But this morning our rhodies opened up a couple blossoms. This is way to early, it's supposed to happen for my birthday in May! Have fun on your trip. Buy lots of Root Beer and Best Foods Mayo, what we cannot get here. If you are passing by, please do stop to meet us!
Green, green, green, green, green.... I am green with envy!! :0(
"simpsons opening" ha ha, around here we call those "Studio Ghibli days."
He looks great, really great. And your place is so pretty!
I know you hooked up with "higher level" endurance riders when you first got to Germany, but are there any local rides? (If all I had ever seen was FEI endurance, I wouldn't want any part of it!!!)

something to do with our weather?
What a beautiful place to live!
Aarene, I have here a copy of Germany's Endurance News (with ride schedule) and I plan on visiting some rides this summer in my state. I am trying not to get my hopes up. But you're right about the FEI rides. Ick.
It does look like spring there. We had snow and hail here today and have only had two days over 55 since the first of the year. Too cold for much to bloom that way.
Baasha does look very thin in that pic but he looks great in the other.
Wow it sure is green there! We had snow this morning and very little green grass to be found!
lytha, your home is amazingly beautiful. I so look forward to your posts!
Fire ants are totally awful. I got bit twice when I was building my horse fence - and I mean two bites on one leg. I whined for days. I would've poured gas on their nest and set it on fire if we didn't have a well! What's in the magical German medicine??
Woops, forgot to subscribe
Funder,
I wanted to say that the medicine worked for a couple of minutes but later my arm was red and swollen and burning hot for 2 more days. Today it broke open when I bumped something and all this yellow and red fluid came out. This one might scar. Dis-gus-ting!
Ack, that sounds just awful, lytha!
I am normally a peaceful hippie type and I try to live and let live - except for wasps and fire ants. I will go out of my way to eradicate them.
lytha, take a stethoscope with you when you go to the german endurance rides, so they'll know you're Real!
(or show them a copy of my latest article and say, "I know this lady!!)
Gorgeous pictures. Baasha is so pretty. :)
