Find the Standardbred

...in these pictures.

This is Star Island, whom I hope to not fall off of or fall WITH on Monday. Actually, a fall might get me out of riding him again til he's learned about where to put his feet on trails, so....

I'm always loathe to tell people what to do with their horses, even when I see someone put a bridle on wrong. But even worse is when the person is almost 70 years old - I cannot tell him at his age how to adjust a horse blanket. I did mention I always buy nylon-lined blankets to avoid the big bald spots his horses have from the polarfleece rubbing.

The two horses in the foreground are retirees of Juergen, and he says that one of them will not make it thru this Spring because of founder issues. It happened to be the one who caught my eye, the pretty long maned one. Oh how I'd love to take him home so he doesn't become wurst next.

These photos were enhanced by my camera, not editing software. They were taken from a very great distance using my camera's 12X zoom, and I really need a tripod for that. I let the camera itself adjust the colors for a less black and white look in today's haze. The white bits on the ground are snow, which was everywhere yesterday but thankfully just in patches today.

I did pick the horse in the blue blanket. Looks like a standardbred to me although I've only seen that breed a couple of times at the track up in BC when I was there for a horse show. It was so much fun to watch them pace even if it was from a distance. They were on the opposite end of the facility from us and there were locks between us, I think.

Even with nylon lining I'm having an issues with rubs on a couple of horses.

I must say after hearing about your ride on this horse, I wondered about your reticence to ride Legs. He would have been good for you just like Dandy was. Nothing anywhere near as wild as this ride in Germany could have been.

I picked the correct horse too!

Is there any chance that the 'soon to be wurst' horse could come be Baasha's friend? Maybe his feet aren't that bad and you could keep him comfy

I knew which one was the standie! Look at that elegant profile! >g<

(I know you like dainty faces, but give ME a big head with a bunch of grey matter inside, thanks!)

My mares get "bald shoulders" no matter what blanket/lining I use...EXCEPT when I swap the blankets around every few days, as I've had to do in this(up 'til now) warm-but-wet winter. No rubs on either one so far. Huh. I learned something useful.

I still think you need to find an OTT standie and save him from the wurst truck.

So what's wrong with Jurgen's blankets? Serious question, last year I bought my very first turnout blanket and I've put it on Dixie exactly twice. It looks ok, I guess, but I just don't know much about blankets!

I'm with Aarene, big heads are the best. I hope that big goofy baby learns to walk on trails soon - tripping horses are just awful.
