Baasha gets in the way

Tonight we worked together on the stall site.

I couldn't figure out what was taking my man so long - after an hour he only had 4 garden stones laid. Well I started watching him. He has a level and he uses it for each side of every stone, making sure that all sides are perfectly level. He has a tamping (?) device and a shovel and he worked so hard making sure every piece was laid perfectly in line 3 dimensionally.

Baasha was so curious about what he was doing, he was almost a nuisance.

As we talked about our plan for the area, Baasha would wrap his neck around my man lovingly.

This look in Baasha's eye says "We're friends, I trust you" as clearly as if he could speak it.

Then he'd nuzzle his shirt and basically try to be as close as physically possible with him.

At one point my man had to blow his nose (still sick) and Baasha saw him reach into his pocket for a tissue, and thought, "Oh, goodie, it must be something nice for me to eat, cuz it's coming from his pocket!" and unfortunately it was only a kleenex. Here my man gestures, "It's for me, not you." and I love it when my man does this - he uses human gestures with Baasha as if Baasha understands them.

Here Baasha actually opens his mouth "for me?"

but Baasha followed it all the way to the nose and then was disappointed.

This is horse-speak for "I love you."

I decided to get rid of the little pear tree myself, sorry dear tree, but you are in a bad spot! I was amazed at how easy it came out of the ground. And before we had it out, Baasha started eating the top leaves, which were now accessible.

I dragged the tree down the hill and left it for Baasha to de-leave.

He went right to work.

The cat was there to watch and interrupt my filming.

My man continued working until he had a good start on our new wall.

It's neat the way it continues the old wall that was there. (The stones don't seem to match but every time we touch them with our muddy gloves, they turn browner!)

Very cute. I find it funny how each time I try to get a little rest by sitting on a salt block, the horses suddenly have to get some salt. They'll walk all over me, but in a sweet way, sniffing and poking me to get my attention.

Baasha is the sweetest gelding! He reminds me of Champ :)

After he's done with the blocks, please send your man to me - I need things leveled perfectly in all three dimensions!

Those are great pictures of Baasha snuggling up to your man. Good luck with your project. It may take awhile, but it will be perfect.

When Barnaby wraps his neck around you, you think he's going to crush you, but actually, he's saying, 'Give me a scratch, right there!' He loves it. Get your man to scratch Baasha's chest next time he does it.

NM, I wish we could help Baasha be interested in his salt...he just ignores it so I add salt to his feed. You might remember the post I wrote about my man hiding a carrot behind the salt to get Baasha to lick the salt.

Funder, I feel so bad about Champ still. I remember your post that day. That is the day I fear.

Juliette, I hope my man understands the gestures Baasha makes to show him his trust. I wish my man understood horse language better.

Once Upon, Oh my, you're right. Just now my man told me the next few days worth of plans and I feel the need to accelerate but what can I do....

Autumn, Baasha isn't a horse who likes to be rubbed/scratched but he's learning. These moments are rare when he initiates contact, and rubbing him tends to send him away. I've drilled it into him to stay out of my personal space so I find it interesting that he is going to my man and being "intrusive" but so cute: ) He instinctively knows that my man doesn't have such rules and he gets very close. I worry that my man will get his glasses broken whenever he kisses Baasha on the face!! But lately I am trying to teach Baasha to rest his head on my shoulder. He's so shy about it but he's getting it.

Oh what a nice wall! Those block look easy to install, too. They seem to interlock together. We have a wall made with large boulders and stones, and another wall made with railroad ties., I like them both because they look so natural and do such a brilliant job at controlling erosion. Tell your man, nice job!
Love how Baasha adores him, too. Does your man enjoy riding Baasha? I bet Baasha takes good care of him in the saddle.

Poor pear tree. Could you have replanted it? I wish you could send it here. I'd love to have a pear tree. A friend of mine made the most delicious pear almond jam. Oh it was so divine! She gave me a jar and I refused to share it with anyone. I ate the entire little jar all by myself. (I'm so naughty! hee hee!)
