It wasn't quite what I expected -- I expected to hang out by myself in Munich for the most part, but instead I hung around the convention center for Kirchentag (church days) for my man's many choir concerts. I often wandered the halls as they were singing though, visiting booths and talking to people.
It was on every station, tv and radio, this event. After Kirchentag we'd watch more Kirchentag on our hotel TV to see what we were missing!
Oh, I took the Prius to a new speed, 176kph! Don't worry, it was a rare long straight stretch where I could see far in advance.
Now the Autobahn is not all fun and games, sadly. There are these signs that tell everyone to slow down for this next portion of road due to construction or something.
This is why - see the construction on the right? But did you notice, the "fast lane" has been reduced to a 2 meter width? Evil. This happens all the time here, even on the Autobahn we use by our home. 2 meters is a tricky width to navigate, even at 100 kph. It is totally freaking unnervaing when a big old semi is next to you when you're in one of the 2 meter lanes, and a solid wall is on your left. I cannot manage it for long, I usually chicken out. Oh, in this photo you can see a nice raps (canola) field.
I saw this sign and said, "Wha---huh, what are those A and I symbols?" My man answered, "Austria and Italy." I said, "WTH, let's go! I mean, I've never been so close, and I've never been to either!" Oh well, that didn't happen. Someday.
It was less people than I thought, but 100K is still a lot. All wearing orange scarves, with the theme printed on them, "Damit Ihr Hoffnung Habt"
(So that you have hope.)
Here is Bayrische Rundfunk (Bavarian telecast). This is one of many newsstands in the convention center.
Here are the cardboard seats in most of the big halls.
This is a typical German experience, someone playing a music box. In this case, a woman pastor with a political message (that I did not happen to record on film.)
This is my man with his Garmin, at the entrance to the convention center. He's hoping there is a geocache hidden here, and all the while a film crew is preparing next to him.
More later....
