We were listening to the radio and I asked my man something and he said, "Shh!" cuz apparently it was important.
"What is 'boo-uh'?" I asked. He said, "A big wind."
By 1 pm it was just starting, and he had to go to a charity choir concert. I begged him, "Don't leave me here during this storm!"
He took the cell phone and I know it must have been rough out there, because an hour later I got a call saying, "I made it. How's our house?"
"Well, the roof of the bird house is gone. The downspout fell off the greenhouse, and the barn loft door keeps opening and banging around. I think our TV catcher's gonna fall off (satellite dish). Baasha's afraid to be inside, and me too. But I can't decide which is worse."
Hours later it was the most wind I've ever seen. They say it was 68mph.
Certain gusts would scare me so much I'd run to a doorway as if we were having an earthquake. I didn't want to be near any windows. 3 firetrucks went by, probably to clean up fallen trees. I normally enjoy storms, but this time we have a house, and would it still be standing at the end of the day?
It was lifting puddles off the ground, and I could hardly open my house door to go outside.
Baasha dealt with it really well actually. He placed himself in the middle of the paddock and just watched calmly. He was way calmer than I was! I tried feeding him some hay in his stall and I believe most of it blew away into the next county.
My man finally came home at 10 pm and told me no trains are running in NRW, and 6 people have died - all from trees falling, most of them died driving. But across western Europe, over 50 people were killed yesterday by Xynthia. How many people were risking driving because the trains were down?
First thing this morning I went to the far corner of our field to see if Bill and Pat, my two beloved old oak trees, are still standing. (I had to bring Baasha with me for moral support at what I might find.) Unbelievable. They're fine. In our middle pond I found a plastic sheet that had been carried away.
Thankfully we made it through with no serious damages.

Very scary. I am always amazed when I find the horses standing calmly in the midst of the worst weather. I'm glad you had only minor damage.
I like the photo of the train tracks.
Glad you are alright...that was a scary storm. Our winds were not as bad but it kept me up last night. So happy we arrived home on Saturday from trip on the trains I feel bad for all the stranded people and deaths.
Goodness, that sounds awful. I hate that dilemma of whether to turn the horses out or leave them in. Glad you are all ok.
Wow! We have winds here that are bigger than our building codes. You name your trees? Awesome.
Wait a minute... your word verification for me is "fatter". I take that personally.
Oh my goodness, it sounds like Daun's windstorm blew all the way across the Atlantic to nail you too! I'm so glad you and Your Man weren't hurt and Baasha stayed calm about it!
My WV is milibra, which reminds me of that Austin Powers movie with the Fembots. Heheh!
Living in Oklahoma, I understand just what you are talking about. Glad you are all ok.
It was nasty wasn't it! Our winds didn't get that bad but they were pretty high aswell.
You mentioned on my blog that your roast came out really good because of the fat that was in it? thats why. If you use one with no fat they always come out tougher:)
We need to find a common spot to chat..lol I've always known that about the roasts:) Im going to buy a book they sell here in the netherlands for expats. It gives the dutch word and then the english meaning with all the foods here including beef. Everything looks so different in the stores.
as for the leaner cuts over here they fry it in a big pan over low heat..still dry as hell but anything is edible with gravy or ketchup on top! LOL
Whooooooosh! That's some mighty big winds!
Glad to hear that y'all are okay, even the trees. Sorry about the birdhouse, though.

Old German word meaning "give me another hit of schnapps so I can sleep through this gigantic windstorm!"
I had a really cute, clever, witty comment and my stupid computer ate it. So now I'm all surly and stuff.
But I'm glad you survived the storm!
Hello Lytha, thanks for stopping by my blog.
Your beloved horse is amazing! They're such gracious animals. I don't have much experience with horses, I'm more of a city girl, but I love animals so much!
I heard about the terrible storm that hit Germany and France. We were afraid that it might hit Holland too, but thankfully it didn't. I'm glad you're alright! The video really showed how scary it must have been.
