Snow cavaletti

Today we discovered that snow can function just like cavaletti.

The last time I saw him pick up his feet like this, it was over the poles.

Don't worry, we were only doing snow cavaletti for about 5 minutes. He's not in shape for this. I just took LOTS of pictures during that 5 minutes.

Some of them turned out really nice!

I have to admit I had to adjust the brightness and contrast on most of these photos, because the sun was shining on my white horse on a white background - you can imagine.

I was not asking him to canter, for many of these pics I was just standing by the gate watching him play all on his own. He had an audience too - all the pony party horses were hanging their heads over the fence up the hill, looking down at their guest. From the looks of that roundpen, they had not been using it since our last snowfall.

You might see that he looks dehydrated in these photos. I remember him drinking the warm water I gave him this morning, cuz he dribbled it all over my flannel. Tonight he has another warm bucket. I'm trying not to worry. His poo was more separated than normal this morning, but while we were there, it was together again.

I was really scared as we were down there. There is a vicious horse on the property, and he tried to attack us through the fence earlier. Then he started tearing at the wood rails, spitting them out like, "After I finish this fence, I'm starting on you two intruders." I was so scared. I'll have to tell that story another day, because I'm trying hard not to write such terribly long posts.

Baasha was not afraid, but he hadn't heard the stories I had heard.

He was just having fun.

His tail was actually half frozen in these photos, because I'd just washed it. The last 8 inches or so of his tail were hard like uncooked spaghetti, *lol* probably not very good for the hair, right?

Afterwards, he wasn't even sweaty, despite his 2 inch long hair coat. (I measured his coat as it is starting to drift off and stick to me lately.)

Wow look at him!! He is so beautiful Lytha!! I love that last canter pic--- he looks SO neat with his tail and body all "coiled" for action!

Great shots.

Now you have me wondering about the horror horse stories... spill the beans girl!!

My, it sounds like they need a little electrical wire for that other horse.

Baasha looks so happy to be bounding about! I'm glad you were able to give him a stall respite.

He looks like he's having fun, and he's not skinny at all anymore! Yay!

Taking pictures of grey horse on grey day in the snow = almost as difficult as taking pictures of a black bay horse in the snow. ARGH! I'm glad our grey has melted, I can finally take decent pictures of my horse again.

Are you totally tired of snow, yet?

Baasha is thriving now that he's home with you... just look at how fat and sassy he is in these winter pics! Pretty good for an old man :)

You will do a post about the horror horse stories right?

Wow, he looks amazing! I did notice the movement, but was so struck by how beautiful his face is. His eyes are so bright and lovely, and he looks as though he's grinning with happiness!

He is so beautiful! Love how his mane has stayed dark - it really sets off his neck well.
