I feel like an Eskimo. One of those ones who knows all 50 words for snow, a different word for each type.
Look what the snow did today. It came down all sticky and wet, and we got a new 4 inches or so. Enough that we had to shovel the car out, and I had to shovel a path to the manure box again.
I'm tired of typing that so you're probably tired of reading that.
But this is really really pretty, in comparison to that powdery kind. It sticks to everything - every branch and every wire on the chain link fence. The temp is hovering around freezing, so it's not unpleasant, and the snowplow has been up and down enough that no one has any issues with driving.
I drove some chococlate cheesecake over to the pony party people (the firechief and his wife Kerstin, who rides Merlin that Irish Tinker with "the tail") and I'm sure they will love their first American cheesecake experience.
(The firechief might have had it in his youth in California though, so maybe he knows it.)
A Little Color
So here was our little respite from snow last week, when the grass showed itself again, and we squinted at its green-ness. You can see what remains of my horsey sculpture on the right.
I say "respite" cuz we've had nothing but white since before Christmas.
Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-ee!
And look who came to visit again! This time my man was home to greet the chimney sweep guy.
He's so cool.
I listened as they talked rapidly about our heating system and chimneys and such and they were talking so fast I had no chance of understanding. I gave him a baggie of cookies before he left. I should be incurring some really good luck now, if simply touching a chimney sweep is lucky. Giving gifts should be ultra lucky!
Winter Games
I caught a snapshot of my man, cozied up with his touch screen laptop, in a break from report cards. Report card time is rough on teachers.
But when he takes a break, sometimes I catch him playing Spider Solitaire, or others.
I bought him that laptop in Seattle last Summer, and it makes me so happy. (An HP Touchsmart, in case you're curious.)
I'm always happy when I figure up a good gift.
This is the look of anguish as he plays, and I suppose, he isn't winning here.....
Outside
Baasha was nosing me as I was trying to get sticky snow pictures, and later I realized he smelled that I had just stirred his mash in the kitchen, and he was wondering where the heck it was.
This is the "food look" that is so great when photographing horses. Just hold a carrot out of reach, and they make sweet food experessions.
Be sure after this photo I ran to the house and fetched that mash! (And the kettle of water to warm his bucket.)
Cooking Adventures
Bravery is cooking with things you have to look up in the dictionary first, and you know you've never eaten that before, when you see the result, but you go ahead and try to cook it anyway.
Rutabaga. Here we go. (Hey, you're not so different from a Kohlrabi!)
Wirsing. (How I love cabbages of all types!)
I'm feelin' mighty good that I was able to cook edible meals with unknown ingredients, meals from my man's recipe collection that he got from his grandma.
More Snow
And yes, more! I said I wouldn't complain til February, and I'm not. I think it's gorgeous. But so much!
I said to the lady at Aldi, "I feel like I live at a ski resort!" (but she didn't understand me at all, *sigh*.)
This is my birdbath.
Tonight we hunker down and appreciate power and heat.
Everytime I warm my hands on a radiator, I am grateful.
OK, now..
to go give Baasha more carrots!

So pretty--I'm glad that you aren't tired of it yet (I would be insanely tired of it by now!).
Baasha has such pretty little ears!
WV: rhypho
beef broth with some kind of heavily-veined german cabbage
Hey, do you guys get kale over where you live? I've had a real heck of a time finding it in Berlin. Sometimes the organic weekend market will have it, but usually it seems like a complete rarity, which is odd since I think it CAME from here.
Oh yes, I know my snow ! I spent 33winters in a place that that made Buffalo look like it never experienced winter.
I *REALLY* know my snow ! And I don't miss:
1. Driving in it
2. Walking through it
3. Shovelling it
4. Plowing and eventually blowing it (once the banks got over your head, shovelling became a real chore)
ONE BIT !! So if you want to complain, feel free to do so here. You have an empathetic ear in me ! Especially since I now live in Tennessee and I don't have to deal with it very much !
Such sticky snow and no snowball fights? :)
What a shame.
Please stop talking about cheesecake. I need to lose 5 pounds and you are NOT helping. :D
I can't believe how much snow you are getting. It is so effing cold....have you ever felt this kind of cold before! Yikes I'm freezing. Great pictures your man deserves to play some games .....teaching is hard work and math teacher too!have a wonderful Tuesday!
I must say, I've never cooked a rutabaga, but you make it look so inviting.
The snow, however, does not look inviting, and I'm glad we haven't seen any since Christmas. We are still dealing with rain and mud.
Baasha looks good. How are his eyes?
The trees looke beutiful when their branches are heavily laden with snow. Love Bassha's food face. Such a pretty face even when lusting after a carrot.
