It's been snowing all day long. I measured 9 inches underfoot. This is the first day it has not stopped snowing for a moment. I love it! I figure if we have to look at it all over the place, it may as well be coming down looking like a postcard.
The oak trees across the street look different - they look like ghosts.
It's a wet sticky snow, covering everything horizontal or vertical. It is heavy and soaks through your clothes while shovelling. I'm worried about some of our shrubs breaking from the weight.
I wonder how my man got to work today. I have heard horror stories of people stuck for hours on the autobahns.
I went to work shovelling, for when my man comes home. I think shovelling is so much fun, I started doing part of the street too. I realized for the first time our street is not plowed..why? I thought to myself, "I should shovel a path all the way to Wuppertal, so my man makes it home for sure!" : )
I also realized that my man had shovelled this driveway a mere 3 hours before, and yet it has this much snow. Incredible.
I hung out with Baasha in his stall a long time. It's really not that cold out, so I removed one of his blankets. He's soaking wet from standing out in it. (He's dry under his blanket, no worries!) I have no idea where the poop is out there, it's all white.
Sadly, I found another dead mouse in his water bucket. Poor little things! But my man said when I find 25 mice, I get a cat. Woo! So far I've seen 6.
No mail today, no garbage pick up, and no plow. I wonder if we'll be able to open our front door tomorrow morning.
UPDATE: 17:09
Still no plow, and my man is 2 hours late! I was out shovelling again so I don't know if he tried to call. This is one of those times when having a cell phone would be nice. As I shovelled the driveway again for him, I realized when I was done, I had to just start over, cuz there was half an inch already. So I did it again. And again. I really love shovelling!
As I worked, some neighbor kids walked by, throwing snowballs at each other, laughing. I said "I"ve never seen so much snow!" and one guy said, "Me neither, and I've lived here all my life!"
UPDATE 18:37 My man came home! He had some trouble, but nothing like what I'd heard on the radio. He did try calling, but I was out enjoying shovelly bliss: )
It was his last day at the inner city high school where he teaches, and guess what, the kiddies from his home room gave him a card with a gift certificate to our favorite Wuppertal Indian restaurant! WOO! *dance*
It's true, what my S-I-L says, the city is out of salt. Therefore no plows. They don't plow without salt cuz it leaves ice. And yah, it's still coming down out there! I love it.

LOL I grew up in snow like that. Trust me, after a few years, all that snow removal gets OLD! ;)
Sure am glad you are having fun though!!!
If I can sort out how to make a carbon copy of Kitty Biscuits, I'll send you one! She is a blast! Dont know if she is a hunter or not, but she is pure heck on pine cones and lead ropes! ;)
Mice:
Don't forget the one in the office which i found! It was already mumified! SEVEN! HA!
Streets and snow:
I think the salt is out. It was on the news that most cities doesn't have enough salt to clear the streets... typical germany...
Mrs Mom, you have the most beautiful cat in blogland. I simply love her, just looking at her: )
Das Ees, I'd forgotten about the mummified one. Yah, that counts: )
And I consider the street maintenance to be bemerkenswert (admirable) here, the plow normally comes twice per day and twice per night. Where I come from, if it snows, the city is helpless. That's cuz it doesn't really snow much and they don't want to waste/spend money on plows when they won't be needed. Running out of salt is kind of funny. But probably not for long.
Lytha, you missed wintertime here last year, when we had SO MUCH SN*W, and the city of Seattle refused to use salt on the streets because they didn't want salt to run off into Puget Sound.
??????
Yes, the decision was just as stupid as it sounds. And the streets were even more of a mess than usual in a snowstorm. I forget how much money the City later said was wasted by the "no salt" policy...a bunch, anyhow.
Mice: check the manure pile! They are probably in there keeping warm!
Is the city out of salt temporarily, or out for the rest of the winter?? Glad your hubby made it home safef and sound.
It is snowing here in Tennessee as I type. We have three inches and counting, they are saying we could get up to a foot of snow. That would be more snow than we've had in our last few winters combined!
What an incredible season - it seems the world over is having unusual snow fall. I wonder if it's a global record.
I can't believe you like to shovel. When I lived in the land of much snow shoveling it was enough to send me packing.
6 mice equals one cat? Well, based on my mouse ranching experience you've probably got 48 mice by now - you've just "found" 6 of them...
@AareneX - they were worried about the salt running off into the saltwater?!?
Mrs Mom is right, shovelling gets old! lol
Your snow sounds like the one we got last weekend. I was happy though because we haven't had very much snow this winter. LOTS of shovelling and snow blowing here.
I sure wish our city was as efficient at snow removal as yours is.
@cdncowgirl: Yes, they WERE concerned about salt running into the salt water.
And, yes, they do feel stupid now. Or at least, not re-elected.
I also grew up where there was a ton of snow. No thanks. You can have it all. Enjoy your shoveling.
Wow, I know where Wuppertal is! So excited! All our snow finally went and now they are saying more will come this weekend. None so far and I am going to a competition early tomorrow morning, so it had better not snow. I don't want ice on the roads either, or we won't be safe driving the lorry and won't be able to go.
Now you've got the salt shortage! lol You guys got hammered! We have nothing like that here..not in my area anyway.
I hope you have some supplies incase you cant go anywhere this week!!
Sometimes I wish it would snow here!
Wow! That's a lot of snow. I bet you are even more grateful this year that you have Baasha at home and you don't have to deal with the hassle boarding him again, like last winter.
We didn't get our monsoon season rains last summer and it seems that it's now coming in the form of snow.
It's snowed here all weekend, and that's on top of of 14" of snow we already had. It's supposed to snow off and on all week, too.
We do get snow up here in New Mexico at 7,000ft, but not like this! It's crazy. I can't even drive my van because it's a rear wheel drive. I can't get it out of our long driveway. Maybe you can come here and shovel it, since you enjoy it so much? lol!
