Sundays in My City

This installment of Sundays in My City is sure to make you glad you live in Your City.

Because you certainly don't want to live here this week.

By cover of darkness a tractor came. Its diesely sounds made this a multisensoral experience.

It sprayed the liquified manure of what must be a thousand sick cows all over the field across the street from us. The stench is permeating the entire neighborhood, and when you make a run from your house to your car, you hold your breath.

Be so glad you do not live here this week!

By daylight, the grass was stained black and I captured photos.

"What an incredible smell you've discovered!" like Han Solo said in the garbage chute, but we can't call R2 for rescue. Do we get to look forward to this every November?

Coenenmuehle

A few blocks from here is our International House of Pancakes. Actually, IHOP is not international at all. (Ever seen an IHOP outside the states?) We have a pancake house here that does the european style pancake, which is a crepe. They prepare a large array of fantastic crepe dinners - my favorite is crepes filled with turkey, veggies, and gravy. I asked for an American pancake with maple syrup. The lady just shook her head.

Anyway, the coolest thing about our "IHOP" is that it has stood there since 1382. It was this town's water mill. Water mills are common here, and I learned that they use water wheels to power large hammers or to turn large wheels to sharpen blades. They used water power for grinding too, of course. I had no idea that water wheels were put to so many uses. The creek that turned its wheels centuries ago is the same creek that goes through our backyard and through our trout ponds.

Muffit Lives in My City

On my way home from the pancake house, I had to snap a few pics of our neighbor's whimsical garden characters. These people are so creative!

That is a friendly looking little guy!

That is no dog, that is a daggit!

Its hard to imagine a building in place since the 1300s. In the US any building that's 20 years old is in danger of being replaced by the latest strip mall.

Hopefully black poo sunday is only a one day event...

Love the sculptures!!

I LOVE your SUNDAYS! But the stench may be a bit too much, this time...I gag heartily if when we drive into Tillamook and the cow smeel is too thick!
Bruce loves crepes...got a pan for making them last year and does so often , to my delight!

Hahah, the garden ate is too funny! IHOC Bruce will like that!

Your neighbors are quite creative and fun.
We don't eat pancakes in our house. My kids think they are too 'bready' and can never finish one. So when I have time I make crepes for breakfast. We enjoy them at least twice a month and I stuff them with our canned fresh peach jam or our orchard's chopped spiced apples and then sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Yummy!

I've not yet tried savory crepes yet. We use tortillas instead.

That mill building is beautiful.
