Convenience

I love having Baasha's stall right next to the house. If we ever watch TV, Baasha can actually stare at us on the couch, from his vantage point in his stall. Likewise, I am continually checking thru the window if Baasha is in his stall, what he is doing, etc.

I love that the other half of our barn is my man's office. He works in there every night. When I hang out in there with my man, I hear Baasha thumping around, eating, whatever. Likewise, when my man sneezes, Baasha hears it. My two guys spend hours side by side, that is, when the weather is bad and Baasha opts for the stall. I usually find a carrot lying across my man's students' papers, waiting for Baasha to return to his stall. I wonder what the students think of a small orange mark that sometimes occurs on their physics papers.

I just called my man to dinner, and my horse nickered at me, saying, "ME! ME!" and I grabbed another carrot from the stash near the door. We must keep carrots in our entryway, so that we can properly spoil my baby when he is not out at pasture.

Since Baasha's illness, he has taken to pasturing himself at night, and hanging out with us during the day.

He has finally learned his morning routine of a big bucket o' mash, and his eyes are so improved that I check them, and clean them about every other day now. I have actually been able to switch my focus to his feet, which I clean religiously, scraping and brushing and poking and trying to find any suspect crevices. He is such a good boy, he lifts his feet before I ask.

He has a full winter coat, and judging from photos from last October, he has more hair earlier this year, due to our latitude change of 4 degrees. And happily, judging from the photos from last October, he is fatter now. Thank God.

The weather is slowly changing, wettening, the spider webs are dripping dew, but I can still wear my slippers to say hello to my horse.

Our mud-free environment is working; if Baasha wants to get any mud on him, he has to search hard to find any. Not only do I not have to drive to go see my horse, I don't have to put on shoes. That is convenience.

Love your set-up! My horses are about 200 yards away - an easy walk but not quite in sight - I wish they were right next door. I fantasize about a set up where the horses are right next to my living room with dutch doors that allow them to stick their heads right into the room!

Having horses at home ROCKS, doesn't it? :) Sonny's run in / stall is right outside out living room window, and being able to look out and see him any time eating his hay brings a smile.

Glad Baasha's eyes are better too. He really sounds like he is one happy fellow out there!!

I love having my horses at home. We don't actually have any cross fencing, so they could, if they wanted to, walk right up onto the front porch. They don't, but they could. We often look up at dinner time to see them watching us eat. Mr. Fry always asks how much is that pony in the window.

You have a wonderful arrangement. I bet you sometimes want to pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming. You have come so far...and all your struggles and challenges have paid off. I'm so happy for you, Lytha :)
