Yesterday was awesome. First of all, Aldi has this super yummy canned Thai soup, and I probably got 15 of them into Baasha's saddle grocery bags, so I had that for breakfast. Thai soup in the morning, I love it!
Wish I had pics from yesterday, but oh well, I will just post some from last week.
Then I spent 4 hours out cutting blackberries off our fenceline from the neighbors. We are gonna say something, like, we have enough blackberries of our own without yours coming over our fence. Those hippies next door just keep getting stranger. Oh, they don't live there, they just camp on weekends and have very mellow hippy parties. This morning, swear to God, there was a new hippy dude there with his dog and his VW van, and he had a University of Washington Huskies Tshirt on. I stopped in my tracks and said Hello and stopped myself from telling him that was my school, my mascot...but he was embarrassed cuz he was just doing someting in the bushes and I was all gussied up to go to town, so our conversation ended at Hello.
But back to yesterday, when I discovered some sort of altar in the hippy tree lot! At first I thought it was an animal trap, then I realized you don't put the bait outside the trap, and you don't decorate a trap with shells, porcelan, and a toy rabbit head on a stick. I sincerely hope I get to the bottom of that mystery on our fenceline.
Then my man came home, and I was just getting ready to take a shower to get rid of the filth and grime and stickiness and bug bite pain. He looked gorgeous and distracted me.
Then he went out with the weed whacker, and in what must be a little avoidance of his lessons prep, but probably mostly succombing to my pleas, he used that thing for hours on our pasture fenceline. I was thrilled about it, he was finishing what I had started.
I grabbed the horse and we trotted out there to watch from a safe distance.
I think it's funny that I interpret safe distance as 10 meters from the weed whacker, but Baasha thinks 5 is OK. No, it's not! You can get tiny shards of grass flung at you and they rip right into you!
Baasha grazed, I watched and admired my man, and regassed the thing when it was empty. That was so fun!
The best part was when he was done. He quietly came to me, exhausted, handed me the weed whacker, and took Baasha. He then tried to climb up on his back, endospink style. (lol!) Unsuccessful, I helped him lead Baasha to a hill so he could jump on from there. My man, totally covered in grass bits, had jumped on Baasha bareback in the field with just a halter and lead rope.
Baasha started to climb the hill, and moved from a slow walk to a shuffly, half trot to get up the embankment. I watched as my man slid further and further back on Baasha's back, until he was on his rump, and then fell off the back of him. As he hit the ground Baasha jumped forward, startled, and then as my man lay sprawled in the grass, laughing his head off, Baasha started grazing.
I was like "Why didn't you grab mane?" and he said, "I didn't think of it!"
It was the first time my man fell off, and I was glad it was just onto the soft field. A moment of reckless helmetless is very rare here.
All in all it was a great day!

Your man is definitely one of the sweetest! :-)
inter : (verb) to canter backwards on the wrong lead
Can we see photos of your hippy neighbours?
It's a good thing that magic mushrooms don't grow in the fields aroune there!
Ha ha! Well, now Baasha is trained for a hiney dismount thanks to your man's slow thinking. Hee hee.
Hippie neighbors? Do they think they are all Americans, all Germans, or a mix? With that strange alter, I won't call you a stalker if you spy on them. At least in their case they are doing something weird that draws attention to themselves. It's not like my neighbors peering out at me from behind trees for an hour when I'm obviously just shoveling manure.
I second the photo request of the hippy neighbors. How about just a photo of the shrine?? Love the story of your man slowly sliding back off of Baasha. I can assure you Jason is not going to hop on one of my horses bareback with just a halter anytime soon!
aarene, awww thank you! i told him you said that!
whp, don't those mushrooms grow in manure piles? i see two of them now. i should put them on the "altar" huh? too bad i cannot get over the fence to really check it out.
photos? i am afraid that would make me a bad neighbor, if they caught me with a camera aimed at them! too bad...wish i could.
nm, they're german allright. if there were any english speakers there i assume they would come over and talk to me!
that altar is really quite hidden. for them to reach it they have to duck under blackberry vines. it is easier for us to see it from our fenceline, but it is still hard to see from under our bushy hazelnut tree. but that thing is so odd looking, i think they might understand if they caught me on their land. hm......
melissa, your horses are too big to just jump on!
