Quaint

I was sitting in the middle of my field, watching Baasha mow the deep green grass at the end of his NH rope (they are the best for handgrazing!), when I saw the lady with the terrier making her way down toward me. She was the first neighbor I met, long ago when I was cutting blackberries, and she was soooo nice. What's that in her hand?

She brought a gift for Baasha, a wicker basket full of carrots! The carrots were bedded on a colorful cloth, how quaint! He didn't wait for introductions, he put his nose right in the basket and ate one. The little lady was thrilled. She invited me and my man for coffee, she said they'd like to get to know us. Oh, it feels good to be welcomed! She also said in Sept there is a neighborhood party, yay! I can show off my good American potluck dishes! (OOOHhhh, which one should I make!?!??!*ponder* For SURE, Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies.)

Then we talked for a long time. She likes to talk, and Baasha took that chance to roll in the grass, getting green grass all over him. Agh. The little dog Leopold was amused.

I sat in that field for over an hour, watching crows harrass hawks, watching our fish swim circles, noting how lush the grass is becoming. Oh the way to the grass Baasha knew where we were going, and tossed his head and started prancing on the line. I started running and we ran together. Man I love that NH rope for stuff like that! (If you're reading this Tami, THANK YOU!)

Later I cut blackberries on our hang, and Baasha stood at the top of the hill looking down. Even when my man joined me later, to help tear them out, Baasha wouldn't come down. I think he instintively avoids low, wet areas. That's fine: ) He LOVES his stall and wants to just stand in it for hours, staring at the passersby. I'm so happy he feels secure in there. It really is nice to just stand there and stare at the world going by.

The owners of 72 were there, (she always has the coolest clothes, even when gardening), and she invited us to a campfire party they'll have this summer on 72. She also said they'll be cutting out the blackberries along our other fence, WOO! I was hoping they'd do this (The lot 72 is in between our field and our house/yard/hang. So far they've chainsawed all the blackberries back from our field fence, but not the side next to our house. This would be nice, cuz I've already spent so long trimming them off our front yard and hang fence!)

Two neighborhood party invites in one day!

It's Friday morning. It's so much fun to wake up and my first conscious thought is, "Baasha is here!" Today my man said, "Can I feed him his breakfast?" I was delighted: ) "But you don't know what goes in it." "Well you'd better teach me, in case you're ever sick!" So I showed him how to put the oil, vitamins, glucosamine and some corn on his mash, and mix it up. He topped it with a carrot and ran out the door. I watched from a window. How wonderful - oh dear, will Baasha expect a carrot as topping every morning?

OK time to get dressed and go clean up poop. I love this life.

Believe me when I tell you, you will be grateful for that offer to feed him at some point. I has pneumonia earlier this year and was flat out for days. Mr. Fry fed the Boyz and made sure their tank was filled with water. What a nice man.

That is nice that your neighbors actually speak to you, bring your horse gifts, and invite you places, as opposed to tiptoeing from hiding place to hiding place while spying on you as you putter about your property. My neighbor has started this new habit in which she will stand on her tiptoes to watch me, and if I spot her and our eyes meet, she freezes like a prairie dog sniffing the air. The second that I avert my eyes, she's gone down her hole in a puff of smoke. The last time my farrier came, she stood behind me the entire time and eavesdropped on our conversation. I knew she was there, because my horses pointed her out to me. I finally turned around and stared back at her to let her know that I was fully aware of her presence, and she just stood there staring back at me saying nothing. I wanted to say, "Don't you have something better to do with your time?" She doesn't even come out when my farrier shows up to trim her horses' hooves, so I don't know why she'd feel the need to get involved when he trims my horses' hooves.
