Only a few brandnames I recognize here...

I'm a brand shopper. I want my horse blankets to say Weatherbeeta, my truck to say Chevrolet, and my mayonnaise to say Best Foods. The other day Baasha's Weatherbeeta soaked through from rain. *sigh* Well, it is about 3 years old. It served us well. Now how to find another one in a foreign land....

I'm also a bargain shopper in that I won't pay over 100 dollars for a turnout rug. You can get really good turnout rugs for around 100, if you shop around, and more isn't necessarily better.

Amazon.com has some nice Weatherbeetas for sale, but to get them to ship to Germany, they want to add $60 for shipping and then customs. My man gently talked me out of it and asked me to try, just try, the German horse catalog. (You know, the one that sells different feed depending on if you ride dressage or if you jump.)

No Weatherbeetas there. BUT, they do have a brandname I recognize - Amigo. Rambo's "afforadable" line. HM. I hate that front closure. But it has all the other features I need - total wither coverage, smooth nylon lining, and 1200D waterproof toughness. Then I had to learn how to measure my horse the German way (I wrote a whole 'nother blog post on that, underneath this one).

OK it's only 110 Euros, but the dollar is strong lately so I shouldn't feel guilty. 4.99 shipping.

I hope it's not crap. Does anyone who reads this blog have experience with the Amigo line? It says they run large - is that true? I ordered 10 cm shorter than normal (4 inches). I'd rather have a blanket too small than too large - poop on the back snaps is not nice.

(P.S. Not to worry, even though Baasha's rain jacket soaked through, the warm storm blanket underneath was dry and still doing its job!)

Amigos are common in the UK.They have a good reputation and fit my mare nicely.

To keep the waterproofing alive, don't wash it at home. A professional cleaner with a large non-agitating washer can preserve waterproof coating; home washers with agitators destroy it. I have heard good things about Amigos and love Rambo generally. I had a Rambo fly sheet that lasted 6 years.

oh thank you you guys, i was hoping you'd say that!

FL - well lucky for me, there are no agitating washers in germany.

really, i was shocked when i first looked in our washing machine. what exactly happens in there? for one thing, it doesn't fill with water. it just sprinkles water periodically i guess. also, it takes 1.5 hours to wash a load. the nice thing is, the clothes come out amazingly clean, even without agitation and hardly any water. when i go visit my family in america and do laundry, i inevitably have to wash things twice. weirdy!

but i wouldn't try to wash a turnout rug in our little thing - i don't think it would fit. i usually have my turnouts professionally cleaned. we'll see if that's even possible in this foreign land!

hättest du deine alte decke nicht einfach neu imprägnieren können?
machen wir mit regenjacken auch so - wenn sie nicht mehr wasserfest sind.
gibt da verschiedene sprays.
ganz liebe grüße,
